I bought a 4553TSW a week ago, and a 4566 last week too. Both guns came with 4 mags each. The problem I ran into was all of the 3 spare mags on the 4566 are actually more compact sized 457 / 4516 / 4553 style mags.

Would the collective S&W semi-auto “hive mind” here take the spares to the Sale / Trade Forum to sell off / trade (I just need two of the larger full sized mags), or would you all just keep all of the .45 compacts as spares and suggest that I try to find and buy some spare 4566 magazines.

There are a couple of ways to go here just seeing what the general thought is?

I can't answer your question without knowing how many spare mags per pistol you feel is an appropriate number.

If three mags per pistol in total is your appropriate number, then sure, sell/trade four compacts for two full size and you'll probably come out dollars ahead.

If you like to have plenty of spares, keep what you have and search for more.

I always try to have three mags per firearm at a minimum, it just happens in these two deals that I made I wound up with one (4566) full size and seven of the compacts. :)

If those two 45s were the only S&W 45XX series pistols I owned (and planned to own), and those eight mags were the only S&W 45XX mags I owned (or planned to own), then I would think seriously of trading the four compact mags for four full size mags.

Then I would have five mags to fit the 4566 and EIGHT mags to fit the 4553 (still maintaining the minimum number of three mags specifically for the 4553).

Otherwise, I would keep what I have and look for more full size mags before the price climbs even higher.

I can buy the blued Pro Mag 4500 series mags through Midway, but I was just thinking of using the 4566 as my new duty weapon at work.

I guess I'll just hang on to all of them. Who knows another Forum member might just buy a compact 45 series pistol that came with spare full sized mags and need to trade down the road? haha :D

Thanks for the thoughts and feedback.

I wouldn't use Pro Mags for the range, let alone in a situation where my life might depend on the reliability of my firearm.

Which again brings us back to why I may do some horse trading for the larger 4500 series full sized mags. ;)

I wish NUMRICH wasn't out of the magazine bodies as I would have just built out spare mags like I did for my 1006. I have a few followers and base plates in my S&W parts bin, and all the innards are readily available through several vendors, but everyone is out of the mag bodies.

PM me your mailing address and I will drop two 8 round 45XX mags in the mail to you on.....Friday. They are used, but in very good condition. Factory springs and followers so your armorer shouldn't complain if you use them to qualify.

I have benefitted from the overwhelming generosity of those in this section of the forum. So I am just "paying it forward" as the younger folks say. I am working off duty at the range Tues/Wed and am busy Thurs, so Friday will be the first chance to send them.

Congrats on the two new 3rd gen 45s! Excellent choice. I carried a 4566 on duty for many years. And still carry one. Hard pistol to beat. Welcome to the forum. Stay safe! Regards 18DAI

The 7 rounders should work in your 4553, I'd hang on to them. The 7 rounders seem more expensive than the 8 rounders right now. I found several OEM 8 round mags on various websites and gun shows. I applaud 18DAI for paying forward. Well done.

Wow 18DAI I am beyond speechless and very humbled by this generous offer!

I'll drop you a PM, but thank you again so much.
