I've always like the Mountain Gun concept with their pencil barrel profiles. So when my LGS obtained this one I quickly bought it before it hit their web site. It came with rather ugly but comfortable black rubber grips. Wanting something better looking and a little more trim I bought a set of VZ G10 grips for my new Smith. I also like the fact that it is a pre lock dash 6 with a forged hammer and trigger. I have a good supply of different 45 Colt loads like Gold Dots and old Remington semi wadcutter hollow points and even an assortment of cowboy action light loads. So soon it will be off to the range to see what this 625 performs best with.

My 625 MG's in 45 colt and 45 acp are my 2 favorite field N-Frames. I'm sure you will enjoy your new acquisition.

Congratulations on your revolver

I like the Mountain Gun configuration as well and own several.

It is a shame that this concept is not a continual factory offering

And this is one of the older Mountain Revolvers. This revolver has one of the deepest, most beautiful blue finishes of any of my Smith and Wessons

If you're gonna own a Mountain Gun, .45 Colt is the cat's hiney! I have two, a stainless one with the lawyer lock and a blued one with same. Love 'em both. The stainless one is my constant summer companion loaded half with snake shells and half with HP's.

You won't regret buying that "little" sweetie!

Those .45 Colt Mountain Guns sure are sweet. The grand old cartridge will do anything you need a handgun to do, without the blast and recoil of a big bore magnum. The mid size 686 Mountain Gun is another that does not get the respect it deserves. I have never understood why S&W will not bring back the Mountain Guns. They are just so darn practical.

No on the ashlands, I have them. I was referring to the locked and marked 617 Mtn. Gun. I've only seen pics but I think it was etched.

Of the prelock centerfire SS MG's, I think youre correct with the 686's. IIRC, app. 2000 were reportedly made...

I have all 5 of the CF SS MG's and I think youre correct that the 686 seems most scarce. Followed by 657???
