n a unanimous vote Tuesday night, San Jose’s city council approved a national first that will see gun owners being forced to compensate taxpayers for the spiraling costs of gun violence. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, gun owners in California’s third-largest city will be required to take out liability insurance for their firearms, and pay an annual tax that will help fund emergency responses to gun-related calls.

In a news release ahead of Tuesday night’s vote, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said: “While the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms, it does not require taxpayers to subsidize gun ownership... We won’t magically end gun violence, but we stop paying for it. We can also better care for its victims, and reduce gun-related injuries and death.”

Taxing a constitutional right! Yeah yeah the feds already do it, but if they tried to tax people to vote, I'm sure there would be a huge push back. Poll taxes have been outlawed for years.

It's a sad fact, but if it actually flies there and makes it through the legal process in the courts; we'll soon see it in all blue run cities. While that could actually be years out, it's a sobering thought none the less.

Don't worry, gang. I'm sure that all of the criminals and thugs in San Jose will now take full responsibility for the impact of their actions. Soon, they'll be rushing to their insurance agents to insure their guns, and then they'll be lining up at the tax office to pay their gun taxes. And when they do that, law-abiding gun owners won't have to pay anything!

If I used the language I would like to use, I would give the moderators a heart attack. I lived and worked in San Jose. I know first hand who causes the overwhelming majority of firearms related crime in San Jose. Approximately 85% of my casework involved firearm associated homicides and attempted homicides associated with criminal gangs. A lot of these criminal gang members are prohibited from firearms ownership due to felony convictions, drug sales, and/or illegal entry into the United States. I retired five years ago, but I remain in contact with my co-workers. Things in San Jose or in Santa Clara County as a whole have not changed since that time.

If the mayor of San Jose thinks that the criminal gangs will get insurance or pay a tax, then he must have fallen off his bicycle and landed on his head a few times too many when not wearing a helmet.

I don’t suppose it would help to point out to the San Jose mayor that next to no “gun crimes” are committed by legal gun owners and their legally acquired firearms...

I have not been in California since the mid 1970's. Gasoline is
so high there I have no plans to go there again. I figure though
the gun laws there are like "suggestions", sort of like the federal
immigration laws. I hear a lot of criticism of Texas especially
regarding pollution. I wish we could have a vote by Texans
to restrict our exports of oil and gas and keep our energy here
in Texas. Maybe that would help keep our cost of living lower.
I don't think California recognizes my Texas License to carry,
which puts that place off limits for me to travel there.

Trying to make sense or arguing with people that agree with this type of thinking is like arguing with a drunk. Better not to waste your time. Feel sorry for good folks stuck there. Feel lucky for those of us that escaped.
Hopefully the sane people there will someday rise up and take over , BUT thats gonna take alot of change. That state is so corrupt, so left, eventually they will run out of things to tax, or workers to tax to support everyone else . Its a shame when you consider what that state could be like.
