I tend to be fairly closed lipped on anything involving firearms. If I think you need to know I will speak. Two threats, the anti's of course and the crooks.

I may be pleased as a bear in a honey factory about a new gun but never share my joy to the public.

Same here. I figure the less people know the better. With that said, there are a number of fellow shooters at work that I trust. We'd have never figured out we shared the same interest except for some subtle comment at one time or another. The comment lead to more in-depth talk and a friendship. One guy was trying to explain something in a meeting and said ". . . . like a Damascus barrel." ?? After the meeting I commented that few people knew what a Damascus barrel is. And of course, I learned he is an avid shotgunner.

I lie.

If I'm ever asked, I tell people I who don't know me that well that I don't own firearms and talk in an ambivalent attitude about them. The people from my past who knew me as "the gun guy", I tell them that I sold my stuff when I got laid off to pay bills.

I don't frequent gunshows and I don't go to the LGS so I don't cross paths with friends or acquaintances. When I do a transfer, the bit anonymity of masking up and sunglasses don't hurt, either!

Same here. If a coworker asks I will talk but won’t tell them what my arsenal consists of.
And I wouldn’t mind a SW, Sig or other T-shirt but I will not simply because of thieves and snowflakes.

After a friend was followed home ,LEO suggested, and later robbed, he had every gun sticker in the world on his truck, I removed every one off my old truck a great number of years ago. Today I doent even display a IWLA sticker. In this day and age, just not the best idea. JMHO.

I've had loose lips, and it might come back sometime, to bite me in the ankle.

Conversely, It might give a potential thief, food for thought, before breaking into our home.

I don't put any kind of stickers or emblems on my cars anymore. Even if I don't have anything to lose from a theft, just the damage alone from the breaking in is a disincentive to put any of them on my cars. And in this day and age, somebody is bound to be offended by something and decide to key the car, although on the one side of my Mercury it wouldn't make any difference. The Batmobile and Batsignal license plates make my cars distinctive enough.

I understand the logic of keeping one’s trap shut about owning most anything that might be an attractive target for thieves, but when I’m around like-minded folks that I’ve known for a while I don’t worry much about sharing gun stories. There’s a difference between a bunker mentality and using ordinary caution and common sense. I enjoy sharing what little I know and learning from other folks with similar interests.

I hope we’re not considered public. Enjoy seeing everyone’s new accusations.
When one of us gets a new gun, we all do. 😎😁
I don’t have any decals on my truck. Just an invitation to a thief.

It's called discretion. In our dysfunctional woke society some people feel it's okay to destroy someone else's life over misplaced-manufactured hurt feelings.
Lewis Carrol, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley etc. would be amazed it happened so quickly.

My neighbor knew I had guns because he also had some and we would talk. Well he moved away two years ago and last week he sent me a text asking if I had any I wanted to sell. Well maybe I do and may be I don't but what I do know is the neighbor is now a convicted felon for domestic abuse and arson. Just better that no one knows.

Like a lot of folks here, I have been shooting for fifty years. I raised my children with respect for safety and never had a problem.
However, I made the mistake of working 7 days a week to send them to college.
They are liberal and on Facebook, saying who knows. We rarely talk.
The words "Red Tag" are a worry.
That horse has left the gate, but now I remain silent on the subject unless I am among like minded individuals.
