The warning is for POINTED bullets. It refers to rifle calibers like 30-30 where the bullet comes to an actual point

With only 2 exceptions, I can not think of a .357 handgun projectile that is a candidate for a cascade ignition

Just got into the "357 Lever gun club" a few weeks ago. Love the 1894 Marlin I got. I have a 1.5-5x Leupold coming for it. Can't wait to get it sighted in and out into the field to do some deer shooting with it. I've just used some of my 357 revolver ammo I had loaded up, but it showed promise with a couple of loads.

Mark==My dad use to have a case of this stuff—probably the most in one place outside of a factory—that he purchased at a police auction. I believe it purported to be "armor" piercing but I don't think it penetrated any better than regular .357. I always wondered about someone shooting it in a lever action but can't imagine anyone stupid enough to try it.

WESTERN SUPER X METAL PIERCING 357

I have not seen any of it in years.

That is exactly one of the two projectiles I had in mind. Winchester called it Metal piercing for a reason. It will penetrate better than Jacketed, but it is far from Armor piercing

The other one that I had in mind was the old KTW

starting to sound to me like I'm over thinking this.....staying away from pointed bullets is the key here! you all have some darn nice Levers, I can see I'm going to like this journey:D thanks, any ideas help

I have a couple of .357 lever guns and I've taken coyotes and white tail deer with both of them. Shooting .38 Special rounds through them is like shooting a .22 LR on steroids. With good .357 ammo they will do anything within 100 yards that a .30-30 can do.

Top is a Winchester model 94 with 16 inch barrel.

Bottom is a EMF model 1892 (made by Rossi) saddle ring carbine with 20 inch barrel.

You don't want pointed bullets in a tube magazine, and I'm not convinced how dangerous that actually is. The Hornady FTX or whatever it's called is an exception.
I have a 92 Rossi and it'll load, chamber, and shoot anything a 357 revolver will handle, from lead 38 special bunny fart loads to full tilt Magnum loads. Everything I've tried in it has been pleasingly accurate.

Handsome scabbard!!

I'm a little worried about the rounds that are bullet to primer loaded in the magazine tube...that's about it...I can see pointed being dangerous, just not sure about SWC or the smaller flat points...The Aguilla are slightly more pointed than the Am. eagles......Probably obvious this is my first lever gun, trying to be safe!.....cant wait to shoot it

SWC bullets, round flat-nosed, or flat-pointed jacketed soft points will not set off ammo in the magazine tube.
What do you think people have been shooting in leverguns since 1860?
