Covid Observation

My doctor is still unsure about me getting the covid shot. "Compromised immune system" has a different meaning for some. Am still scared of surcharging my immune system, which is being deliberately suppressed, not suppressed as part of another treatment.

Fortunately am retired and pretty isolated normally.

I had to laugh when I saw the below article in 'BusinessInsider.' Not everyone worldwide is kinder and gentler about this. From the murderous psychopath Rodrigo Duterte, president of the Philippines:

"The president of the Philippines said he didn't care if people who deny the coronavirus vaccine died from the virus.

Rodrigo Duterte said in a national address on Wednesday: "For those who do not want it, well, for all I care, you can die anytime."

Besides not wanting to be at all like Duterte, a man more than comfortable with the extrajudicial killings of an estimated 12k of his own citizens for "drug dealing" (see also: political rivals), and not wanting to write off my fellow countrymen, the issue is that "their funeral" approach doesn't work as it's not only the unvaccinated person at risk, its those they come into contact with and the risk to everyone of being a breeding ground for new variants which could put those who did get the vaccine at further risk.

It's a bummer. I'm happy I've got some extra protections on this, but we really needed to go all in to get **** taken care of. We'll always have it with us as a major part of life now, when there was at least some chance of knocking it down to something like the how we deal with the flu, dangerous to some, not to most, and with optional vaccines for those that wanted a little step up.

I wouldn't quite put it that way myself. OTOH, adults can make their own decisions as long as they understand that they will have to live with those consequences.

I'm vaccinated and I don't feel any need to socially distance, wear a mask, or do anything else to "protect the unvaccinated."

Agree'd. You shouldn't have to

Except that the infection rate for children under 18 is almost zero. They don't get it, they can't carry it, and they can't transmit it.

There are currently more kids in hospitals with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, or RSV than anything else. RSV is also known as the Common Cold.

There is some evidence that the vaccine causes more reactions in kids than in adults. IOW, the potential risks outweigh the potential benefits. This not the norm for well established vaccines that are commonly administered to children. Polio, MMR, Tetanus, etc... have long track records of preventing illnesses.

How about to protect children who haven't been able to get vaccines yet? Perhaps around them, children, you'd reconsider?

I'm kinda embarrassed for us that it came down to a "have to" question. I had a brief spark of hope that we could come together as a country, and at least get the year or so of post 9/11-esque cooperation and willingness to sacrifice, but of course we didn't just conspiracy theories and an unwillingness to even do the bare minimum of trying to help with masks and limiting gatherings.

Now we've done an amazing job developing an incredibly effective vaccine, with hundreds of millions of successful applications, made it free to everyone, but to slightly under half the country, through it becoming a political identity issue, through misinformation, through misunderstandings of the efficacy or how it works, and through a lack of care for the safety of the country, it's not gonna happen.

You should look at the demographics of who is not getting the vaccine. Hint: It's not what you might think from watching the media.

Look at the vaccination rates by location, age, and race. You'll be surprised.

Don't worry, I'm quite aware of the demographic breakdown, and it changes absolutely nothing about the post you're quoting.

My PSA: if you think you might have it, drink lots of water.

My son, who lives with me, had it. Day 1 was serious. Wound up in emergency room. Alert doctor - plenty experienced, I'm sure - said his serious symptoms were due to severe DEHYDRATION, not directly from the Covid. Doc put him on an IV, and he was fine. A little sore throat and some fatigue for 3 more days, and that was it.

Seems the body's fighting the Covid can cause severe dehydration.

Dehydration is a result of a lot of illnesses. It's also the key factor in Sepsis, which your son was heading for.

Sepsis is an opportunistic killer, especially for the elderly. Many elderly people are chronically dehydrated because they don't like having to go to the bathroom multiple times during the day and night.

As a result, when they become ill, they are predisposed to further hydration and Sepsis. Once you reach a certain point no amount of oral hydration can keep up with the dehydration. Which is why your son (not saying he's elderly) needed an IV.

A friend of mine went to the hospital with a BP of 64/36 Saturday. He could barely stand up without assistance. They admitted him and started giving him lots of fluid. He wasn't Septic (yet) but was right at the ragged edge.

Why would children get the vaccine? To them its a cold. Especially for a vaccine that could possibly mess you/your cells up and now we need boosters? Sorry but thats too much for my liking on something that to fairly new and have no long term studies

We are in the very early stages of long term studies. The unvaccinated are the control group [emoji16]

Me too. Vaccinated back in February 2021. Didn't wear any mask-didn't socially distance no nothing. Held my grandson this past Saturday-he is a cute little 7 month old and we had a nice time. Saturday night started with symptoms and Monday morning confirmed COVID. I'm doing great-very mild symptoms but I am worried sick that I might have given it to my grandson. You can bet your *** I'm wearing a mask now!!
