I have both a 3.1" Shield Plus Perf Center handgun, and a 4" Shield Plus Perf Center model.

As S&W stated, they put a black finish on the 3.1" frame... Like ceracoat or something similar. As a result, the plastic is much smoother to the touch...

But, there is no extra finish on the 4" Plus frame.

Anyone else have a 4" Plus? Is your frame the same?

noting to compare but its a factory production gun, not meant to be a show piece. But do have a question how is the 4" model is it softer shooting than the 3? I have the compact 4" and 5" and for some reason I do not like the 5" because it seems to rock in my hands more

No, you miss my point in the question...

I am wondering if the 4" models are coated, and they just missed doing mine. Or, do they skip that on the 4" models - and it is only done on the 3.1" models.

THAT is what I want to know.

I can shoot further distances with the 4" model, because the increased sight radius. And yes, there is a little less recoil.

Try posting a COLOR picture.

While your 4" looks a bit lighter, it likely just the lighting from the pic.

The S&W catalog specs out frame and slide treatment and finish the same for both. The color is in the polymer used to make the frame.

Edit: Well, I take that back. I found a vid with Julie Golob. She says, Yes, the Shield Plus frames are ceracoated.

Use the index in the video or jump to 7:11.

Yes, the 3.1" models are. But, I am asking if they do or don't do the 4" models. If they do, then they skipped mine. Or, maybe ALL the 4" models are not cerakoted

it's the same exact frame no? i'm guessing they only cerakoted the shield plus because it's meant to be a carry pistol so it needs that extra slickness so it doesn't grind against the skin

Both are the Shield Plus guns. But one is 3.1" and one is 4"

And yes, the frame is the same. Just a longer slide/barrel

I have both as well and the color seems darn close to my old eyes. Might be a little variation in the cerakote finish though.

No, my 4" doesn't have the cerakote at all. It is just the polymer finish.

I was just wondering what others have to find out if mine is a mistake, or if that is the way it is supposed to be.

I have the 1.0 and 2.0. I honestly like the smoothness of the 1.0 with the new aggressive grip only texture on the 2.0. I actually want the Plus and just realized it’s suppose to be smoother “cerakote “ finish but I don’t think I’d want that, due to possibly chipping. If that’s what it would do.
Wish I could Frankenstein all my shields. 1.0 finish, my 2.0 with integrated laser, on a plus capacity and trigger. Or with my EZ trigger Haha.
Yea I like shields

Wait, there's a black Cerakote finish now?

My shield plus frame (optics ready version) is a matte dark greyish with a gritty sandstone finish.. is that normal? My friends 4in PC model is much smoother and not sandstone textured like mine.

I have one 3.1 Plus w/ Cerakote and one 3.1 Plus w/out Cerakote. The Cerakoted frame is the plain Jane model w/ white-dot sights. The non-Cerakoted is optic cut w/ orange-ring front tritium sights. You can tell by the mold injection spot behind the trigger. On the non-Cerakoted frame it's whiteish where they broke it from the mold. You can also see the metal in the frame where the takedown lever is. The Cerakoted one is smoother and I prefer it. Not a big deal either way, however.
