Full size M&P 2.0 - 10MM

Gents,
Is the full size M&P 2.0 the same frame/overall size as the new M&P 10MM??
Other than my Shields, I've not had any experience with the M&P series, until now, I have - and just today shot - my new M&P 10MM, and I have to tell you the rough grip texture is not to my liking, and the loads I was using aren't all that hot......
I'm looking at the Talon rubber grip covers, had them on my Shield .45's (also rough factory plastic grips) and they were great, but shooting the 10mm (stock) was not something I want to do for long. Talon sells thier grip covers for the full sized M&P 2.0 .45 acp, so if they are the same size as the new 10MM I'm going to order some.

Probably the same as the .45 ACP one. Which means it's fatter than the 9mm / .40 model.

Do what a lot of folks do: Get some fine sandpaper, 400 or 600 grit, and very carefully just take the tops off the stippling. Those who do that report good results.

the 10mm with all the water down loads does not make any sense to me. The 9mm will penetrate deeper than most .40 caliber so no point in 10mm unless you go with full power buffalo bore loads.

M2.0 got too aggressive texture to me. Sandpaper 800 did the job well.
Just be careful and don't overdo this.

Honestly don't know about the S&W 10mm, but, as someone who reloads, the dimensions for overall length for 10mm and 45 ACP are both pretty much identical for max COL.

I would expect the engineers at S&W would realize this and build the 10mm on the same frame as the ACP since they wouldn't have to build something new to get a magazine to fit in the thing. Dealing with a skinner cartridge is a lot easier than a longer one.

After putting the Talon grips on my M&P 10MM, I did a more extensive test (just yesterday).

Was fairly underwhelmed with several loads, had some UMC (Remington) 180 grain loads - yawn - and also shot some PMC 200 grain loads, again - yawn - fairly dissapointed.

Also shot some of my older 180 grain reloads, but these were practice loads and by design somewhat downloaded.

Did some research on Buffalo Bore's loadings and they looked promising, but very expensive.

This project was all done to try to displace my "hiking" pistol - Glock 35 with replacement .357 Sig barrel, specifically 147 grain carry loads from Hornady (147 grain XTP), now these have some real excitement in them, but still was looking for a heavier bullet load - you know in case I run across a brontosaurus out there on the trails.....

Well, a new gunshop opened up in my area so dropped by and had to give them some money, ended up buying two boxes of Underwood 200 grain HP's... Took them out to the range yesterday and Whooooo!! what a load.
200 grain at 1250fps definitely got my attention, I don't remember shooting anything with as much muzzle flip short of some stout .44 mag loads in a revolver. The range master came over to inquire what the heck I was shooting....

Probably a factor of performance and the lighter polymer frame of the M&P, I'm definitely happy with the results and am now happy with the M&P 10MM - might just keep it (well, maybe after Apex comes up with a good trigger, the S&W factory trigger has too much spongy/springy creep for me.

If you get a chance to shoot these Underwood loads in your M&P 10mm, hold on tight.
