Thinking about the Raiders of the Lost Ark, a few years ago I put together an homage, if not a replica, of the big revolver Indy used in the movie.

How about a non-lock, half-moon sight, no underlug, four-inch barrel, forged hammer and trigger, butt swivelled 1917 in .45ACP?

If they made it that way, no one could afford it! Heck, the new stuff with the storage device and MIM are priced out of my reach as it is!

Had a pre war 38/44 HD that looked like that, a dozen years back or so.......very nice. Currently have a 4" m10
Royal Hong Kong Police .38 that has a similar old school look to it, but just not the same. And a 25-5 which looks identical to the 25-2s I used to have, And as I've said before, since I only get out shooting maybe four times a year instead of every weekend, the higher cost of 45 LC not a big factor. But I can't think of a better "fighting" revolver than a one of the big 1917s with fullmoon clips. Nothing faster to reload..

With the full moon clips, what if you fire 2 or 3 shots and want to dump the empties and top off the cylinder?

The thing to do is buy lots of clips, they are cheap. Plus with a good tool which doesn't take any more room than one N frame speed loader you can declip brass fast.

I would think a 3 or 4" 1917 style 45 acp would sell.

S&W recently offered the Model 22-4 with a 4” barrel. I have two. They weigh 38.8 ounces.

I installed a 4” barrel on a 1917, it weighs 35.6 ounces, nearly a 1/4 of a pound lighter.

I can carry either one, all day.

Tim…

Tim,

Where did you get the banded foresight? I have a 1917 that needs to have the barrel replaced and like that look.

This is the way I acquired this Brazilian Model 1917, except for the addition of the Tyler T-Grip. I like to think that someone rescued a gun whose barrel was shot out by the corrosive ammunition at the time. I don't have any provenance on this gun, but whoever did the work was fabulous. It locks up like a bank vault and is really accurate.

StrawHat-

I bought a barrel-band sling swivel base from Talley and extensively modified it, filing a flat on it and then slotting it. I then used the original half-moon sight from the gun which I sawed off, and fitted it to the slot. Silver soldered it in and silver soldered the band on the barrel, which I had to reduce a bit in diameter to fit the band on. Lots of hand work!
