I started collecting a couple of years ago. As you know, this is interesting, addictive and expensive. I am limiting my collecting to blue magnums (older). Without these limits, I feel this can get real finacially out of hand! lol So much beautiful stuff out there.

I have a couple of "gaurdian angels" guiding me with this now. They are "trying" to help me to pick great guns and stay away from mistakes. I couldn't be luckier!

I'm from upstate NY originally. Lot's of hunting, fishing and trapping back then.

I have enjoyed my short time on here. So much information, so little time!

Thanks all!

Vinnie

Welcome

Welcome! I did the reverse migration. Lived my entire life in FL and retired to Vermont. Lots of great people here with lots of great information. Good luck with your collection. Best wishes!

We're of like mind with the choice of guns we look for. Do you also look for specific barrel lengths, or do you take what you find when the rest of the gun is suitable? How patient are you to find what you are specifically looking for? When you say "(older)", how old?

My goals are pinned and recessed magnums made between 1961 and 1982. 1961 and earlier generally jump in price because they are dash one or earlier in many of the models, and the pinned barrel and recessed charge holes disappeared around 1982. I prefer blued guns, but also wanted at least one stainless example; I also picked up a nickel gun, although as a rule I don't care much for nickel, too flashy. I don't get too picky with barrel length except I don't want any with a 8-3/8", I look mainly for as pristine a finish as possible, and of course, no issues with mechanical wear and function.

Welcome to the forum, post some pictures of what you have found so far.

Welcome from Maryland.

It will get expensive even if you limit your collecting to blued revolvers of a specific barrel length… but it’ll be fun!

Not sure how to post picks yet on here. I have a very early Pre 27(2) one being a 5" ,Pre 28 and Pre 29. The Pre 29 is a 5 screw and I hve been told by some knowledgable people it's the best they have seen. Just got the very early 53 4 screw. My unfired very early 57 comes in tomorrow.

Here's where the OCD lol kicks in, I also have a 27-2,28-2and 29-2..

To turn your stomaches, I have a blue 4" Python. LOL

Rest are shooters..

I'm looking for a 48 no dash and of course a 48-2.. Maybe a 586

Almost done!! Yeah right!!

Welcome Vinny, I’m in upstate NY as well. But have a place in Naples. Every time I’m down there I make the rounds to all the pawn shops. Naples area doesn’t have many traditional gun shops that I’m aware of. When thinking about cost just know that you will NEVER loose money on a vintage S&W. Good luck with the search. GO BILLS !!!!!!!
