So I read where Major American Ammo Makers donate Millions of rounds to Ukraine.

NRA Women | Major American Ammo Makers Donate Millions of Rounds to Ukraine

Yet we still have ammo shortages here. Some calibers local gunshops said they haven't seen in 2 years. What they do have has gone up, sometimes dramatically.
Then there is the ammo component shortage I saw a report earlier on one of the forums that 100 SPP were selling for $50! I have been in search of large rifle primers, if I find them they are usually well north of $100 per 1000 and they are only sold in batches of 1000. That many primers would last me well beyond my rifle shooting years I'm thinking. Projectiles are a little easier to find and I do mean a little easier. Powder I have had no luck in the local stores. I have seen some online but after you pay Hazmat shipping it becomes pretty pricey also.
I'm all for helping Ukraine but only after our supplies are back to normal or a lot closer to normal

I'm not in favor of helping a corrupt puppet state for western fascism. Millions of rounds is nothing. 300 million americans and one range trip each is like a billion rounds. Sounds like a Tuesday at Federal.

Out west, 1k primers averages $100. 3x the pre-virus prices. Say that 3X fast. Based on inflation, primers should be $80 and up per 1k. Shortages might be based on hoarding.

If 100 some odd bucks for what will last the rest of someone’s life is that bothersome, finances need reevaluated.

I’m a tightwad, but sometimes, just have to bite the bullet if I want something.

I too am a tightwad and when you say it like that it doesn't sound near as bad. Thanks for the different perspective

lppd4,
If you lived anywhere near me I would give you 100 LRP for free. I feel your pain brother and wish I could help you. I would probably come up with some powder too depending on what you prefer and which cartridge you are loading. Sorry man...

About 32% of Americans of own guns, if we all gave a 20-round box to get shot at the Russians that would work out to about 2-billion rounds. For the political and military advantage we would gain over unfriendly states... just tel me where to send it and I'll ship two boxes.

Sounds like you got hold of a bad batch of Kool aide. Over and out.

You trust both the US government and US corporate media. If those were good ideas, "shall not be infringed" wouldn't need to be stated a million times a day.

Romanians get free AKs and free premium american ammo. We all just wish we could buy them at all. So much for rights and freedoms when a communist state is invaded

Kind gesture indeed, I am not out of components just fearful that once i do run out replenishing the stock may be difficult

The ammo manufacturers probably think it’s more important to supply ammunition to a country at war than to supply hobbyists stateside for plinking at tin cans and such.
They will supply whoever pays them. A war is a business opportunity not to be missed. And if it drives up prices and demand in the captive domestic market, so much the better. This isn't altruism, folks.

If you in the business of selling fuel........
would you like to see a V-W pull in or a 18 wheeler ??

If I made ammo..................

My LGS called yesterday to see if I needed any primers. I thanked them for thinking of me. I told them I had been prepared and did not need any at this time.

Ammo is nearly as necessary as food, even in America. Apparently a couple million rounds is a drop in the bucket and most people have a SHTF supply of ammo (if they so desire), but there's nothing wrong with making sure our own needs are a priority.

Most people wouldn't donate their last dollar to charity.

I went to Cabela's -- ammo only in 5.56 or 9mm. Everything else was gone or in some "odd" gauges. Their "Gun Library" was open again -- but only a few "toys" to look at. I cannot find any reloading components at Cabela's. Primers are non-existent. Why buy powders, cases, and bullets if there is nothing to make them go "bang"?

Dang! My LGS hasn't seen ANY primers since this mess started. Some areas seems to be awash in them while other locales are barren. I wonder what's the diff.

Excellent question. I doubt anyone here has direct knowledge of the randomness of where/when primers show up for sale.
