The title says it all. As an example moving from RI to GA. Are there problems passing through states? No ammo involved. Basically the car would be full of guns

Better chk NY, NJ, and Maryland to be safe. There are laws about how they're supposed to be transported.

Might be safer to go by sea, down the Intercoastal Waterway.
Interstate 84 to Interstate 81 eliminates NYC, NJ, and minimizes MD. It's also pretty scenery.

. The handguns were packed in individual cases and then in carboard boxes that were sealed with tape. In my case I was also transporting 80 pieces and about 12,000 rounds of ammo. I had numerous boxes of household items as well, so it would have taken more than a casual inspection to realize there were guns in the vehicle. Drive carefully, pack discretely, and good luck.
