Hi everyone,
I'm a new member here and was hoping to get some advice on some S&Ws I have. I inherited these 26 yrs ago and they have been in my safe ever since. I am looking at letting a few go to fund some other purchases but wanted to keep half. As far as collectability how would you rate them? If that's possible without opening up a huge debate here?

Model Barrel cal. condition SN
1- 57 6" .41 mag like new N474xxx
2- 25-2 1955 6.5" .45 like new N460xxx
3- 19-4 4" .357 NIB 59K5xxx
4- 27 6" .357 98% slight wear around mz S187xxx
5- 27-2 6" .357 like new N654xxx
6- 66-1 6" .357 NIB 57K7xxx
7- 28-2 Hwy Patrol 4" .357 NIB N952xxx

thanks

Welcome!

Is your intention to keep some for collecting, shooting, or both? If for shooting, do you have a ammo supply of any of the calibers? And most importantly, how do you sell half of seven guns? :)

Presuming you would like to keep the most collectible/valuable, I would rank them:

27 S prefix
25-2
27-2
57
28-2
19-4
66-1

However, all are fine guns and if you don't need the money they will all go up in value. Good luck in your decision.

That's pretty amazing; my collection is almost identical, at least in the models you have. I only have one M27, a dash-2, my M19 is a dash-3 and my M25 is a dash-5 and .45 Colt instead of ACP; my M66-1 is a 2-1/2" round butt and my M28-2 is a 6". As far as yours go, I would keep the M27 "S" gun, the M57, the M28-2 and the M19-4. I'd keep the M25 if it were .45 Colt, for some reason I've never cared for revolvers chambered for rimless cartridges.

You have a fairly difficult decision to make, those are all very desirable models. You sure you don't want to keep them all? Maybe sell the newer M27-2, and find a M58 to go with the M57.

OP - You didn't say who you inherited these fine revolvers from. Whomever that person was, he or she knew what to buy !!!!!!!! And especially in great condition..

I'd sell 3, 6 and 7 - I feel the rest are the most collectible.

And I like N frames.

They are all nice guns, and if you are not pressed for money, I'd hang onto them all another ten years. My feeling is that they will double.

1. Mod 27
2. Mod 57
3. Mod 19-4
4. Mod 25-2
5. mod 28-2
6. Mod 66-1
7. Mod 27-2

While great pieces I put the 66 and 27-2 at the end since I look at them as "repeats" of the 27 and 19

Here are a few pics in order I have them listed. Looking mostly at collector value. I carried a 649 and then a 638 on my ankle for years and I'm more into 1911s and Sig 320s now.

I also have this 29-2 with a 6.5" barrel. SN N393xxx that I am keeping.

Father in law. This was only a small part. Have a bunch of Ruger Blackhawks that will go before these. I have held on to them for over 26 yrs oiling them and taking care of them I will probably hold on to more than half if not most of the smiths.

If I had to sell part of that list, I'd hang onto the two model 27s, and the 57, and reluctantly sell the rest.

Good luck with your decision.

Another question, what do you have with the guns in terms of boxes, tool, documentation etc. "Full" package guns (everything the gun came with originally) are really going for high prices these days, especially N-frame guns in wooden presentation cases.
