What is your Go to War Sidearm?

I’m an old fuddy duddy, set in his ways. If I have to get in a firefight, I’m going to have a 1911. The only question is whether it’s a .45 or a 9mm. The 9mm carries an extra couple of rounds, and if I should have to supplement my ammo supply with battlefield pick ups, that’s a point for the 9. If it’s a one and done, or maybe 2 and done sort of situation, I have more than enough .45 ammo to take care of business. I’m comfortable with either one.

Either my Glock G45 or FN 509c.

That's a really cool-looking G45!

On a side note, I'm delighted to see that this thread continues to receive replies so long after I posted it, as I like seeing what other folks would carry.

Thanks. The G45 is what got me interested in getting a Glock. It really fits my hand better than I thought a Glock would and shoot great. I carried it for a bit, but decided it was better suited for me next to my bed.
Then 509 works a little better for carry on a regular basis.

I'd send our professionally trained men in uniform to stop the need, and ask if I could stay kind of in the background with a radio and my heaviest long gun/scope combo. If I had to carry a pistol for anyone who slipped past the lines, I'd be torn between an UZI and a FiveSeven. I do love the 40 round mags.

Some of these choices are very stylish. I especially like the references to back up pieces and knives. Throw those in the pile with the other 45 Lbs of gear and rifle and battle load of ammo. Won’t be long before you are throwing away the Jokers out of your deck just to lighten the load.

Probably most of these folks have never heard a shot fired in anger, let alone packed their own gear in a pack for days on end.

Fortunately, we have trained professionals such as you two fine folks to set us all straight in this 100% serious thread based on an undefined scenario in which the average joe schmoe has to prepare for war. :D

But seriously, this thread isn't meant to be taken that seriously, as it represents an extremely unlikely scenario in which we all have to fight for our lives with whatever we've got, with the focus being on pistols of all things.

If you read the OP you'll see that this whole thread is based on a rather strange statement I've seen folks make in threads about their carry guns not being their first choice as something they'd bring into battle, as if such a thing even exists. It's basically a silly, sarcastic question posed for fun as an excuse to show off whatever pistol they fancy or otherwise consider to be their most combat effective option.

Rest assured, we'll leave all the fighting in your capable hands, this thread is just for fun. Thanks for your service, lugging around all that heavy equipment and marching into battle, so that we don't have to!

That implies that bullet diameter is everything. It's not.

A .44magum is a LOT more powerful than a .45acp.

And a .357magnum is more powerful than a .45acp.

He's just quoting a variation of an old joke; "I carry a .45 because they don't make a .46."

Besides, a 1911 holds at least a round or two more than a typical 5 or 6-shot Revolver, and a lot of folks will argue that firepower is more important than mere power alone, so even if he was being serious, there would still be a counter-argument there.

I'm not sure why folks are taking this thread so seriously all of a sudden though.

These threads are fun. I hardly own any handguns tbat aren't revolvers, so I like to picture myself in the physical condition of my early 20's (Turning 50 soon) carrying my S&W 325 revolver. I have 3 speedloader carriers, a moonclip server and 120 or so loaded moon clips to fuel that fantasy.

I presume you mean of the guns that I own?
Thus my choice would be....

Why? Because as Sigp220.45 said - "It already knows what to do."
