Awhile back I came upon a 60 with some finish issues. Minor, but they bugged me. So, I polished it out by hand with Mother's. I had a set of fake ivories on it that looked pretty good. All was well, but then I ordered a grip adaptor from Robertson's Trading. While installing these, I overtightened and the plastic grips cracked. Damn. Oh well, I'll just order another set. They're out. So I get a set off fleabay. Cheap, but they look it. Then Ken puts up a pair of J frames! Gobbled them up. Then I get to thinking, which I shouldn't do. My 686+ has a pair of Ken's stags on it and the same adaptor. If I polish it out they will compliment each other nicely. So, out comes the Mother's. Polish it up and lose the bolt plunger putting it back together. Order in to Gunparts. Had some issues, but easily solved and fixed. Got the Jframe grips today. Put them together with a couple of stag handled pigstickers and you have a good EDC loadout. Maybe a bit old fashioned, but still effective, I would say.

You need some stag shish kabobs to go with those.

I have to say, Ken knocked it out of the park, again! Great grips, great guy and a great transaction. If he's offering what you want, don't hesitate. Especially since there's a ton of other people who won't.

You did an excellent job. I've always been hesitant about trying to polish my stainless guns. Maybe I'll give it a try someday. Hope I can come close to yours.

Good luck and good shooting.

I literally just sat down in front of the television with some rags and a can of Mother's. Could have done a better job but I only spent about 2 hours apiece on them. Just took a cotton rag and wrapped it around my finger, dipped it in the Mother's and polish away. Do a little bit, wipe it down and assess. Do some more if it needs it. Go slow. Keep using a clean part of the rag each time. I worked mostly in a circular pattern, if possible. The biggest thing is disassembly and reassembly. So much easier to polish it in pieces. If this Bubba can do it, so can you.

Edit: It won't take out deep scratches and a pit is a pit. But minor handling marks disappear and seem to be harder to come back.

I picked up a pair of Sambar stag grips on this forum. They were cheap because they seem to be for an I frame and due to irregularities in the bark surface they don't quite make the edge of the grip frame, but they're on my to do list to fit onto my Baby Chiefs Spl.
