Is there no love for the 625 45acp?

I have a 625-8.
Best revolver out of 21 I own.
This includes 7 other Smiths, 3 Colts, 7 Dan Wessons, 3 Rugers.

I don't love my 625 JM but I shoot it occasionally. It pulls bullets and locks up the cylinder. I fixed that with bullets made for a roll crimp and a roll crimp die. I can load lots of 45 ACP for my 1911 using a taper crimp but they don't always work in my 625.

Truth be known a 44 special works better because it's a revolver cartridge. 45 ACP was designed for the 1911. The ballistics, psi and bullet weight are about the same.

I'm not selling my 625 though. I like to shoot it and I don't own a 44 Spl. If I had it to do over I would have a 24.

625 is gone from the S&W lineup. Sailed off into the sunset like many other very nice models due to lack of interest.

Looks like I'm going to have to pull mine out of the safe and shoot it this week.

I've not noticed any load that works better than any other. It seems to like everything I put in it. I generally shoot 200 gr lead but have shot 185's and 175's and Berrys plated in different weights too with great results.

A few years ago I had a Colt 1917 with government markings and it too shot everything I put in it with good results.

This model is on my short list of guns I would like to own. They are expensive, but I plan to have one at some point. Really appreciate the narratives on them. Seems like a great revolver.

In about 1998-99 I bought a used 5" 625 Series of 1989. I'm thinking around $250. I also halve a 1917 Brazilian Contract, I bought for $125 in the early 1980's. I have about 250 full moon clips and keep both guns fed a diet of 200 gr LRNFP's over 5.5 of WW231. Never shot anything with only two legs, but lots of 4-legged things have passed away after an encounter!

The .45 ACP round and revolvers are a match made in heaven. You can't beat moon clips for fast reloads and not having to chase brass.
