I'm trying to sell my 2009 Lincoln Town Car but not having any luck. I've tried locally, but I imagine a wider range of buyers is needed.
I usually trade my cars in at the dealership, but the offer was so low it wasn't worth it; now I'm wondering.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

That’s the sad thing about land yachts, they depreciate pretty quick.
Does it have the air bag suspension? I’m not sure when Ford quit. They were problematic.
I’m sure gas prices and mpg aren’t helping.
Good luck with your sale

Have you checked with Kelly Blue Book? get the actual value depending on condition and mileage. A dealer is going to low ball you as they will re-sell, and would only offer you 50-60% of value to leave themselves room for profit.

The last Vehicle I sold was my 2007 Ford F-150 CC….I had a 2016 Lariat CC enroute and wasn’t going to trade it in…I used Edmunds True Market Value and put up an ad on the local Craigslist. ..Within a couple days, a Buyer contacted me and I met Him at a nearby shopping center…They looked over the Truck, took a pic of the VIN ( to run a carfax) and called the next day to advise they had a Cashiers Check…I again met them at the shopping center with the Title in hand and my Wife picked me up….I took her to Lunch…

My KBB experience was great!

Made a KBB inquiry a couple weeks ago when considering selling my 2017 Range Rover. Included my email address somewhat accidentally.

Almost immediately got the KBB value…then within a few minutes inquiries from three (3) DEALERS who were interested.

Called the dealer who gave me a fair price when I sold my 2015 Corvette in June, 2021, and they said bring it down. They took a test drive, put it on the lift, and offered KBB value. Told them I needed more and named MY price…a price $1500 more than KBB.

Deal. :) Lasted on their lot 2 days. They were happy, I was happy, and according to one who knows him, so is the new owner.

Be safe.

2017 Range Rover vs a 2009 Town Car is hardly a fair comparison. ;) Selling anything that is not a truck or SUV can be a problem these days. As others have said, the airbag suspension on the Lincolns of that era are a potential disaster waiting to happen. Out here in the desert I won't touch a vehicle so equipped.

This is how I do it and I've been hustling cars, boats, trucks, tractors for 40 years. Detail it to the max. Make it pop and then take 24 good pictures. I use a real camera and pay attention to detail. Show all books, keys, tire tread and take pains to show all angles and show the defects.

Price it to sell and put it on Craigslist. Cost is $5 for a 30 day ad with all the words you care to use and up to 24 pictures. Use them all - pictures will answer questions.

I do not put a phone # or email address in my ad - just use the CL reply system to feel out buyer until your bs detector says buyer is legit and then you can arrange a meeting.

Town Cars have a cult following so you need to find a Raylan Givens Justified fan. TCs are fine automobiles - a good clean TC priced right will sell itself but, like guns, if the condition is not there price it low and let it go.

Good pictures and an attractive price are the keys to successful selling. Good Luck :)

How many miles on it?

Thanks to all. Doublesharpe, great, detailed advice.
The TC has 140,000 miles.
I like the Greig's List idea and some suggested Face Book Market place.
The dealer offered me $3,000, but I just received my property tax notice form the County and they list the value at $5,200. I've seen them listed for $8,000 but don't know what they sold for.
I have my work cut out.
Thanks

My experience w FB marketplace is too many looky lous and time wasters.

Craigslist may take a few days but you're only looking for ONE buyer and a good CL ad will give you lots of exposure to car buyers.

I sold this Ranger in 2 days and I'm just showing off with the other pictures   :D

^ Great advice to say the very least!

The late model Ford Panther Platform cars (Crown Vic, Town Car, and Grand Marquis) are always sought after when they're in fairly decent shape, and tend to have a decent enthusiast community thanks to them being the last of the great American landyachts. Somewhere between $7,000-$10,000 seems to be a good place to be price-wise depending upon your local market and condition/mileage.

Aside from Craigslist and other auto listing sites, enthusiast forums might not be a bad place to turn either. Crownvic.net has been around for over two decades and has a classifieds section IIRC.
