If you have any tendency toward falling asleep while using your computer late night or early in the morning make sure that your chair has arms.
The chair that I had been using didn't have arms and to make it worse my daughter had been on me about it because she had a extra chair with arms.
Yes you are right, sometime around 1a.m. I fell out of my chair. I was luckly and didn't break anything, didn't hit my head but I peeled way back a halfmoon piece of skin on my forearm about seven inches long and the blood freely flowed. I tried to get up but couldn't make it so I called 911. It wasn't long untii I heard voices outside my door. I have a lock key box just outside my door with the combination. on file at the PD and FD. They took me to the ER and took some X-Rays and a CAT Scan of my head. My ribs are sore but just bruised. I was very fortunate.
I am now sitting in the chair with arms that my daughter wanted to give me over a year ago. I have alerted the Nurse that comes tomorrow to bring big non-stick pads. My daughter was here when the nurse called and got in her two cents worth and the nurse sided with her. It is no wonder that this chair was unused. The seat feels like concrete and a thin foam cushion don't help much. Gotta have a thicker, firmer foam cushion.
I didn't call my daughter to come get me from the hospital, I called my grandson and he told her the next morning. She didn't even chew on me, just brought me the chair.

Graydon—you are one of my hero’s and an inspiration to all of us here. You keep swinging for the fences, despite these mishaps that I am sure everyone blames on the mighty 90’s.

When I was in my not so mighty 20’s I stubbed my toe out running on a portion of lifted concrete where the sidewalk was broken and pushed up by a Live Oak tree tree root. I was a 5 mile a day runner and thought I was invincible and would live forever.

The fall snapped both my wrists like twigs and I could not preform the most basic bodily hygiene without the help of a home health aid. Said more plainly, I could do neither number one or number two without help.

So almost 40 years ago, I got a look across to the other side of what a lot of people face in age and infirmity. And in my situation it had nothing to do with old age! In fact I was in the best shape of my life.

Keep on fighting Mr. Greatest Generation, WWII Veteran! Use this to get younger nurses and better dope from the doctors.

Glad to hear that the outcome wasn't worse for you Graydon.
I can relate to 6518John's story. I'm well north of my 20's, but a simple slip in the snow less than two years ago resulted in ONE wrist (thankfully not BOTH) snapping like a twig. No fun, and the older we get the slower the healing process.
Take good care of yourself. You're the only you that we have.

I want to add my experience to this discussion. I used to fall asleep sitting upright at the bar in the VFW and American Legion. The manager at the VFW lounge almost threw me out because he was afraid I would fall off the barstool and fracture my skull.

To make a long story short, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and ended up with a CPAP machine. I don't fall asleep at the bar anymore. I don't get as tired when I'm driving.

Yes, I'm glad you have the safer chair. But please take advantage of my experience and see if there is an underlying cause that has been creating the issues for you.

Graydon,

I thought all us old people had recliners.:D I have two extra recliners and would gladly give you one if you were closer! VERY GLAD it wasn't worse than it was, get well quickly.
ause
The last time I bought a chair I went from a recliner to a lift chair. I am very glad I did because it makes getting up much easier.

Graydon,
Glad you didn't bust your head! Get well quickly and have a Merry Christmas!
Graydon, I am glad that you weren't more seriously injured as could easily have been.

Might I suggest...

Fixed it for ya. They turn over too! Don't ask me how I know this. ;) :D
