How many variations of the -4 629 44 magnum's are there?
I am looking to acquire more different types and barrel lengths. The 6.5" classic power port is the latest one for me.

Photos of my 5"classic polished by previous owner and red dot scope. It looks kinda funky but fun to shoot.

If you're collecting -4s, I think the grail gun would be a DX 5". My S&W is the 629-4 5", one of my favorites.

The DX guns were very special, for sure.

I agree about the 5"DX, or any DX. I have a -4 non dx 5" shooter that I found at a pawn shop. It was polished by the PO and now wears a red dot scope.

OP, you're taking on a hefty task. The owners of dash 4s tend to hang on to them. I know I'd be hard pressed to turn any of mine loose. I just had my 8 3/8s barreled gun at the range this morning. It and my dash 4 PowerPort are two of the better shooters of my 44 mag line up. I currently own six of the dash 4 variants. A 4", a 4" Mountain Gun, the 6 1/2" PowerPort, an 8 3/8" standard lug barrel and Classic full lug & a 7 1/2" PC Master Hunter Scope Only gun.
Good luck on your hunt.

I knew you had more than a few! Part of my inspiration is from lurking around here and seeing all of them posted over the years.
The common ones seem to come up often. The rarer ones like the 7.5 master hunter and DX versions not so much.

5" DXs?

The 5" 629 Classic DX was not offered in the -4 version. Only -3.

Last week in a thread on Classic vs DX
629 Classic vs. Classic DX
there was a reference to a -4 DX 5", that someone owned one.

After going back and reviewing SWSC you're right but like I read on this forum several times, you never can tell with Smith&Wesson.

So? Anyone out there own a 629-4 DX 5"?

If your not going to put a scope on it look at the dash 3.Has everything you need plus has that traditional original look of the 629.

I think all 629's shoot pretty well. The DX seems to be a cut above most of the time. I would like to have one but my 629-4 shoots very well and I doubt that personally I would shoot the DX any better. Here is my -4 at the range a few days ago. Target shoot at 25yds, at my age that would be the best that I could do with any 629. Great revolvers.
