Transition from Football Relief to Speed Loader stocks

Have a few questions for the stock guru's on these.

What I understand these were designed by Dr. Jinks to replace the football relief but due to the material being thin they discontinued and went with the what is referred to as the speed loader cutout.

I've been told these were actually shipped on revolvers during the time my 15-4 was shipped (Nov.1979).

I've only seen sets in the K Frame but told they were made in N frame as well.

So here are my questions:

1) What were these called back when they were made?
2) Does anyone have a gun that they received when purchased with these on them?
3) Can someone post a photo of a set of N frames?

Would like to see any other revolvers that may currently be wearing this style.

Let the experts chime in on this subject.

IMHO those are highly modified versions of the cut out. Roy did not design anything that looked like that.

I have a set of the very same style of stocks and had requested info about them in the SWCA section. Mr. Jinks himself commented that it was his very first speedloader cutout design. He also stated that production of this design was very brief because the thin area was prone to cracking.
Another member had posted a picture of a revolver (a 64, or 67....i can't remember) wearing the same style of stocks.

It's easy to see why they would tend to crack..

Wow, I would have lost that bet. I've seen stocks like these for sale online but not knowing the history I assumed they were Bubba modified. My sincerest apologies to Mr Jinks!

Jughed440 thanks for posting the set you have and confirming the Dr. Jinks design.

I’ve noticed that the sets have been numbered on the inside (black marker) to keep the two halves together as I’ve seen combats.

Has anyone seen a set for N frame?

So true on the Bubba handiwork assumption. I had assumed the very same when i saw these stocks on a table at a gun show several years ago...the dealer must have thought that they were Bubba-hacked as well. But when looking at them closely they appeared too smooth and machine-made to be anything but factory. I thought that they may have been made for a special edition model. I got them for $5, or was it $10??...which was not much either way.

This makes one want to hunt down the set of grips purchased on a HP years ago. Could swear someone did it themselves. Put them back in the box and replaced them.

I’m always scouring the local gun shows in hopes of finding another set.

I bet you're right that most of the few made were likely thrown away...that dang Bubba needs his neck rung for messin' with stuff in the first place.

You'll most likely find another set if you're not looking for it

I guess everyone needs to go check that shoebox they have stashed in the closet to see if any in there.

Just curious why some were marked with a letter “A” along with a number?

One of the two sets I have has the “A”.

I don’t recall seeing any letters on combats in the past but then again I can’t recall much of anything from the past
