There's gonna be one heck of an estate sale when we croak! :D

I came across an old saw rack and decided to have a good look at it yesterday morning. It was time to fix it or pitch it! I bought it years ago at the estate of an avid woodworker for a few dollars. It has gravity cams inside the blocks that secure the blades, but three of the seven never worked. I'm guessing the previous owner found the plans in a woodworking magazine, but got distracted and botched the job.

I discovered that two of the cams operated when the rack was upside down! Rather than screwing the blocks on from the back, the guy glued it together. I got out a wood chisel and a putty knife and pried off the non-working blocks. He had installed the cam stop (small nail) incorrectly on two blocks, so the cams just hung straight down. He used too much glue on the third block and it seeped into the cam. I used deck screws to reattach the blocks after I fixed them.

I found some scrap wood in the garage, mounted the rack in the basement and hung some old saws.

I see you saw lots.

Estate sales...
I came, I saw and I conquered!
Except for a few of the bone saws, I probably paid an average of $5 each. Can't pass 'em up at that price. ;)

Here's a couple I saw on flea bay!

Got to love a good Disston saw. Those two you showed are beauties. When I build my muzzleloading rifles, the Disston rip saw gets a lot of use. I still have some learning to do on sharpening the cross-cut saws - they work but they drift off line a bit. I miss having a basement now that I am in a condo. I make do with the garage.

Those pictures of all those saws bring back some very fond mental images and smells from the very early 60's of my maternal grandfather sitting on the kitchen porch steps on almost every Saturday morning, puffing on his pipe while touching up his saws with hand files, cleaning up and stoning his chisels and hand planes. He was a finish carpenter for a large construction company in Cincinnati OH.

The Disston Acme120 is a rare one, and that 120 thumbhole rip the scarcest of the 120's. The 120 series had extra hard teeth with no set and were designed to make a finished cut in dry furniture grade woods requiring no dressing in furniture joinery. Disston even made a special file to sharpen it.

My neighbor across the street from me worked at Disston and sons for over 40 years.

Not long before he died he invited me into his garage and offered me anything I liked as he wanted to help a new neighbor out who just bought his first house.

He was a really great guy and neighbor who also was a WWII vet.

I took him up on a few tools, mostly various hand saws.
and a Disston circular saw that is all chrome. It's beautiful looking but the cord looks so old it makes me a bit hesitant to fire it up.
Maybe I will take a picture and post it.

As far as the saws if I recall most of them were factory seconds but some have pretty cool stampings.
