I know it’s not a S&W, but.
Lately I’ve bee buying more Rugers than Smiths.
Following this trend I spotted a Ruger 4” SS Security Six which I believe was a Pa. State Police revolver being it had the orange insert in the front sight.
Just under $500.
This would be my 5th “Six Series”.

Great revolvers. Ruger replaced them with the GP series around 1986. Hard to believe it was that long ago. I have one of those first GP-100s. Almost bought a Security Six. Had a deposit on one. The GP was introduced and I ordered a GP and switched the deposit to that gun.

You will find the 4" Security Six mostly with the standard dimension barrel. Ruger made some of them with a heavy barrel. I had one of those and let it get away; bad mistake.

SS action is longer than a S&W. They can be tuned, by someone who knows Rugers, to approach a well tuned K or L. As far as fine accuracy, it will be close to a S&W, however most can't tell.

Price, in current market, is about right if it is in excellent condition. If it were a HB and I had it in front of me it would follow me out the door.

I believe the old 6 Series were the best DA revolvers Ruger ever made. I currently have three and always looking for more. ;)

BUY IT!

Don’t be silly. We rarely try to convince anyone from acquiring a handgun, rifle, shotgun, sub machine gun, etc but I think we draw the line at low yield nuclear weapons. Too much paperwork.

A great revolver for sure.

Ifi it's a 'twin' to one of your current ones, I'll encourage you to take a pass. Got a GP100 yet? Got a BlackHawk? Ruger does make other ones, LOL.

Nope, not a twin. I have a 4” “Low Back” Sec Six, a 6” half lug GP100, a handful of single actions, autos, a PC Carbine.
I celebrate diversity. In firearms, that is.

I had a stainless 4" one years ago that I bought used. They were a bit light for a .357. Mine was a bit loose and prone to spitting from the BC gap. I passed it on after a short time. That's why Ruger came out with the GP100.I suggest you give it a good hands on checkout before you buy it.
