3-Cell Maglite: Enough?

Fifty years ago, I was investigating an accident in a snowstorm when a car came blasting through the scene. I threw my five cell mag light at the car and jumped over the guard rail.
The mag went through the windshield and the car kept going.
Another Patrolman got my flashlight back when he stopped the car 30 miles down the road near the Nebraska State Line.

The driver was happy to give it back and not be arrested for numerous charges.

Ah, those were the days... Any of you old coppers remember these?

My dad told me his father, an Iowa town cop, carried and used one from time to time...mostly on taking control of drunks who wanted to fight. Growing up in western SD during the late 60s, I observed Rapid City cops carrying them in their hip pockets. Some carried $2 rolls of nickels wrapped with electrical tape in their front pockets.

Below your back pocket is the "sap pocket". The sap goes in the one and your maglight can be placed in the other as you exit your patrol car.
