Grocery shopping was fun, once.

I will not mention the name of the store, sice this happens in a lot of them,
with the new digital down load system that is said to be the best of the best, don't you know.

Swapped the plastic card & the downloads on the phone,for the grand total, with the "Special" digital discounts on the items ,in the shopping cart.

Their total called for $64 cash, with 45 cents in change.

I asked the cashier to please dould check the total, since it seemed off, to me.
After a delay, I told her let it go, since there were other people in line.

WhenI got home I added up the totals of the items and with the
"Correct" price of the digital items, instead of the "you saved" tags,

the toal cost was $36.04.

I will NEVER, go to any store from now on without the cost of my items, on my shopping list.
This is happening way too often, to me.

My $33 dollar ham should have only been $12.

At least some stores still let you use cut out, coupons.

I have NO mercy with stores that play Billy Suggers with offers. Somebody took back a load of stuff at Albertson's because in teeny tiny writing the price on the tag only applied if you bought $35 (IIRC) of other stuff. When I go to the store it's to buy things, not have an eye test.

The digital coupon nonsense? I refuse flat out to play. As you have demonstrated, it is way too easy to get turned around.

As for the store, go ahead, name and shame.

Are self check-outs faster? Sometimes! However they still charge me for a clerk. Just this week, on the national news they said, theft was double at the self check-out! I just wonder who is stealing from who?

It's just a way to do away with a person's (or 3) job and pocket the money! I try to use a real cashier whenever possible.

In the 60's, when grocery stores used price guns, the stock boys would put a price sticker on an item when restocking the shelves. The items with the old price would just shoved to the back.

Dad would drop me and mom off to shop as mom would take forever digging through the shelves to find an item with last week's price on it and he wouldn't wait. Mom was doggedly determined. Every discovery was like finding change in the sofa cushions.

She says going digital has taken the fun out.

Maybe up North it is easy to find people to hire but , groceries, heck everywhere, is begging for dependable help. One chain has just started to put self checkouts in place. The manager commented to me, they finally have 4 “cashiers” that show up every day and work a full shift. Some folks like them, great! Some folks don’t, so don’t use them.

Better, find someone who wants a job and help them fill out an application.

Local Kroger store give every body the Digital Price - as long as the customer asks for it.

Local dismount is not computer scanner automatic.
Customer asks and clerk over rides the computer.

Today I was in Paducah Kroger.
No digital coupon on phone NO DISCOUNT!

My flip phone does not do coupons.

NO COUPON = NO SALE.

Store has their merchandise and I have my money.

Because of policies requiring digital coupon on a phone;
I no longer shop at Dollar General or Food Giant.


No names were changed to protect the innocent.
Those mentioned are not innocent.

In the 80's Ruthie would hand me a shopping list on my way out to do a club gig. She wanted me to swing by an all night supermarket to pick up things from the aforementioned list.

Realize that this would take place around 0300 and I would be decked out in foppishly garish stage attire. I was the envy of Walmartians everywhere.

I don't have a phone to the net and it actually is hanging on a wall !!

So in order to get the "Digital" coupons, it means that I need to buy a $400 phone and get hooked up to the net, with it.

It seems that often the price marked is not the one the scanner sees. I always check my reciept.

Its been a few decades since I've had to be the one doing the weekly shopping. But FWIW, I would never have described it as being "fun".

Like death and taxes, grocery shopping has always been one of those unavoidable necessities as far as I am concerned.

Getting a discount here or there may be nice, but it isn't enough to make the whole process a rewarding exercise for me.

^^^what he said. Just saw an aisle display for a box of cookies @ $2.99. Looking more closely, that was the DIGITAL price, regular retail was $4.49 in small print! Made this mistake 2X, but the self checkout staff overrode the retail price and gave me the discount, prolly under prior direction. It really is devious and not totally fair.

If you're charged more than the posted price here in Michigan, grocers are required to refund the difference plus $5. If you bring the discrepancy to their attention at checkout, they'll simply adjust the price. When I see on overcharge, I pay and then take my receipt to the service desk and point out the error.

As others have mentioned, tell the checkout clerk if a digital coupon fails to apply. They always make it right.

Think of it as a game! You get Kroger fuel points for buying groceries, filling prescriptions and doing online surveys. They often have digital coupons that give you 2X or 4X fuel points on weekends or Fridays. Their fuel points gets me $1 off per gallon on their gas almost every month. It's good for up to 35 gallons and my truck has a 36 gallon tank. If I don't need a full tank, I have my wife follow me and we top off both vehicles. I also have several 5 gallon cans for the mower and snowblower.

My favorite part of the store is their markdown section! I stock up on items we regularly use or I want to try. Every little bit helps!

Digital Discrimination

Home Depot gives a 10% discount to veterans. Previously it was gotten by showing your military ID card. Now, they insist that one use their smart phone to get the discount. (The military info has to be loaded on to the phone.) Yesterday I was told that the only way to get the 10% veterans discount is to use a smart phone. I do not own a cell phone! I was told, No cell phone, no veterans discount. I think it is time to shop else where.

Kroger "Fool Points"

S&WChad mentioned Kroger Fuel Points.

My experience with the "FOOL POINTS" and the WONDERFUL DISCOUNT offered fpr using a Kroger issued Credit Card did not match their claims.

Just like CAMPAIGN PROMISES, AFTER THE ELECTION

I had over 700 "FOOL POINTS" and their credit card.
Was not able to redeem any for a fuel purchase.

Calls to their "CUSS -TO-ME" service number on the card was a waste of time.

Credit card ended up being cut like the gas price wasn't.
