I have 't shot my guns in 6 months, I've been shooting Archery trying to refresh my past shooting successes. Today I brought out my 4 and 6 inch 617s, each with a RevUp Action Kit installed. These kits are truly DROP IN kits and the only gunsmithing it takes is to replace the existing hammer and rebound springs with the new ones provided.
There is also an extended firing pin and spring but I chose to not install them at this time. If I has failures-to-fire I'd replace the firing pins but out of 200 rounds between the two guns there were no mishaps.
I've tested the guns with the Apex Mass Hammers and they are guaranteed to produce 7 pound Double Action Pulls and retain the Single Action Feature. RevUp gives a lighter DA pull that is hard to explain but actually gets lighter throughout the stroke. I measured hammer fall instead of DA Pull and both guns are set at 50 ounces now while the Apex I needed in excess of 60 ounces to reliably fire .22 ammo.
I only set the target at 10 yards testing function and not groups although I was able to keep all shots inside the X ring of a Bianchi target. That's a big improvement for me.
Now I'm ready to compete in our local Steel Challenge Match in the Rimfire Pistol Open class. I get to shoot Distinguished as well, being 72 years old.
My current ammo of choice is Remington Golden Bullets. They go off with the lightest amount of hammer fall and I can shoot 500 rounds before I have to clean my gun. Many other brands of ammo require using a brush after each stage. I keep a portable electric drill in my bag with wire brush just in case.
Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Good luck to all and good shooting. If you have a 617 or centerfire revolver and want the best action that I've tested you can't go wrong with RevUp Action Kits for your K/L or N frame guns.
