First impressions of the Garmin chronograph

For those of you that have a Garmin, will it show the bullet speed at different points out to 100 yards. Would like to know at which point CCI Mini mags drop below speed of sound when fired out of a 1022 rifle?

The Garmin gives only muzzle velocity. More correctly, it's velocity downrange a bit and presumably corrected to the muzzle. It doesn't do what the Labradar does in terms of tracking velocities at various points downrange.

My experience with the Labradar says that it has a tough time tracking a .22 LR past 50 or 60 yards. Even with larger diameter projectiles, I've not gotten it to track to 100 yards.

Thanks for the head's up... I just checked their site, and they still had them showing in-stock so I orderred one! :D

As soon as I get the shipping notification, I'll cancel my existing backorder...

I just saw this thread, and as they still showed in stock as of 0130 EST, I ordered one as well. It's supposed to show up 12/12-12/14.

My Garmin is on the truck for delivery today. Woo hoo!! I can't recall being quite as interested in a new toy as I am for this one.

Once mine arrives, we'll have 4 of them on the line next Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how well they cooperate and negotiate their channels. One of the "late adopters" will still have a Labradar on the line. It should be interesting to see how channel-hopping Garmins affect the Labradar with its fixed channel selection. Sooner or later, we'll put all 4 Garmins on one bench to see how well they match up for the same round downrange.

I am reminded of the old saying: The man who dies with the most toys wins! And then, there's another, I suppose: The difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys.

I'm still a kid at heart, if not in the mirror.

Still showing in-stock at Scheels as of a few minutes ago.

I also can't remember the last time I was this interested in a newly released techno gadget.

Every first hand report I've read on the various forums about the Garmin has been overwhelmingly positive. A couple posters had issues with firmware updates, but once up and running it worked great.

I've been putting off some load development until I had a better chronograph, so it can't get here too soon.

Saw this post yesterday and ordered one. Received "shipped" notice just now.

Thanks for the heads up.

Paul

I came _really_ close to pulling the trigger on a Labradar a few times over the last year. I shoot a lot suppressed, and the LR triggering issues held me back.

Got into low 40's today and took mine to the out door range. Extremely easy set up and didn't miss any shots as was trying some new 45 AR loads.

Target was 25 yds away, and chrono was only couple inches below level of pistol barrel but maybe 8 inches back from muzzle. Takes brief time to "analyze" each shot, but displays running average, among other data.

Will try at indoor range next chance i get, which goes out to 25 yds. Yea, it be expensive and prices will likely go down as time goes by and competition copies it. But am not getting any younger and going to enjoy what i got left. If only could get back the time and effort of lugging that chrony for years.

Thanks for the tip about Scheels having them in stock; ordered and confirmed and hope to see it by the end of next week.
Bummer is my wife says it's my Christmas present and I can't tinker with it until after the 25th!

+1 on the heads up that Scheels had them in stock. I'd never dealt with them before, but their service so far is impressive. I placed the order about 0200 Friday, received notice that it had shipped at 1000, with delivery set for Monday. Now that's service!

Was also really impressed with Scheels. Shipped same day, here in 2 or 3 days. Was so impressed played santa for my dog through them with same excellent service.

Mine arrived this morning. Planning to try it out tomorrow...

Flu symptoms be damned, I took mine to the range today.
Garmin definitely has made the "easy button" for us shooters.
I charged it last night and got the updates done.
I only used it with my 357s and my 204. I was curious about three loads for my 357s and I wanted to see if it would track a little 204 pill. Well, it did, perfectly. I shot Hornady factory 32 gr VMax, 32 gr Nosler handloads and 39 gr Sierra Blitzking hand loads.
By the time I got 7 sessions shot, I could feel the need for a nap coming on, so I packed it in for the day. Looking forward to getting back out with other guns and loads to see how the ammo performs........ when I'm feeling a lot better.

I am interested in the accuracy compared to the LabRadar, as well as the deviation between units- provided you can set up all four for the same shot.
