I see that California wants to annually register all firearms, per SB1160. The registration fee seems variable.

CA is also working on a bill that would REQUIRE insurance companies to ask their customers if they own guns and/or if guns are stored on their property, how many guns and the manner of storage. The bill would further mandate that the insurance companies supply this information to the government.

Is there any requirement that the customer answer truthfully?

"I'll take the 5th"

If the guns aren't listed under the policy as insured property, it's none of the insurance company's business, and regardless of the state's requirement that they ask, the customers can refuse to accurately disclose that information by answering however they choose, same as if one's child's pediatrician or teacher asks if there are guns in the home.

The majority of CA voters must be on board with all that.
Glad to NOT be a CA resident almost every day.

I appreciate what you're saying.

BUT, there is an old saying that
"As goes California, so goes the nation".

Sad, but to some extent, a true statement.

History has shown that as new laws are successfully passed in California, there are a lot of other states that will soon follow suit...

So we can never become too complacent about what California's legislature is doing - because you can bet that other states will try to enact laws patterned after theirs.

As a resident of Washington for nearly 40 years I can testify that our formerly "free" state has followed California's lead and now our gun laws are almost as restrictive as theirs.

Just something to keep in mind...

I won't tell anybody what I own.

If a robber comes to my house, and steels my property, no matter how much I have prevented the robbery, so be it.

If the government confiscates my property, that's contrary to the USA Constitution and if that ever comes to be, I'll be glad I'm a senior citizen and don't have much longer to live anyway.

If anyone can tell me how to prevent all this from happening, please tell me what I need to do and i'll be on the bandwagon right away.

They can claim it's "common sense gun control', reasonable gun control. or "for the children" but they know that their hands are tied until they know who, where, how many, etc guns are there. Registration fees for sure, then individual gun tax, then required liability insurance, then eventual confiscation. Their long term plan has to begin with registration. Compliance is foolishness.

When I was in High School, I didn't care that the potheads and screw-ups were messing up their own lives. My thought was that it meant more opportunity for me. I have since discovered that this was short sighted and counter productive.

Same thing with California. What happens there is happening to us as well. It is our best interests that they don't descend into the pit.

FWIW, if it were an independent country, the economy of California would make it the 5th richest nation in the world.

That is the basis for the statement that "as goes California, so goes the nation".

The economic influence of the state of California on the rest of the United States should NEVER be under-estimated. When we have one state with more economic power than most independent nations, that is a force to be reckoned with.

As the old saying goes: Follow the money.

Money is POWER and California has a LOT of it.

Oh, I’m not complacent at all, and am fully aware of how bad stuff from CA tends to spread; especially as lots of that state’s anti-constitution residents bring their voting habits and activism with them to more conservative areas.
But I am old, and won’t have to worry about it for many more years.
What happens after I’m gone will be someone else’s problems.
My guess is that, given a choice, more and more people will enthusiastically trade liberty for comfort and leisure time and will vote for politicians that promise to make that happen.
I am glad to have been fortunate enough to have lived in the time period that I have, and been able to enjoy the advantages that
came with being an American.
We have never been a perfect nation for all citizens, but still better than anywhere else. Too bad so few people appreciate that anymore.

AMEN to that - I couldn't agree more.

The US of A is not and has has never been perfect - no nation or culture created by men ever has been perfect. BUT, ever since 1776 our country has continued to make progress towards becoming a more and more egalitarian society.

A realistic assessment of history clearly shows that our Constitutional Republic has resulted in the GREATEST levels of personal freedom and liberty for the MOST people, in the entire recorded history of the world.

So, the United States is not the horrible systemically racist society that the left wants to portray us as being.

If systemic racism were the norm - as so many want to claim - then why would the whole rest of the world be so hell-bent on coming here? Even if getting here means risking life and limb?

The proof is in the pudding, as the old saying goes...

Is the US of A perfect?

NO.

But it is still the BEST and FREE-EST society in the history of the world. Despite it's flaws.

The basic facts concerning firearms registration was answered in the 1968 US Supreme Court decision “Haynes vs United States” which ruled that all registration schemes cannot affect criminals as forcing criminals to register a firearm would violate the 5th Amendment right to refuse self-incrimination. Therefore, like every thing else in California, the bad people get a “pass” and only good citizens are affected. Almost like that’s the plan all along isn’t it?

There is a lot of money spent and made out there, to be sure.
But they are also bankrupt.
And so is our Federal government.
Heard on the radio last night and this morning the the interest (one trillion) on the national debt for 2024 will be larger than the entire defense budget of 875 billion.
