I recently picked up a pristine 1993 629-3 4” in the box with papers but no tools. I was planning on running a few light loads through it this weekend but I got a call this morning from a good friend offering me his excellent condition 629 4” p&r no dash for a really great “friends and family” price. Of course I said yes haha. Now to send the -3 on to pay for it.

It’s tough being an addict :D

What a terrible problem to have! ;)

I can relate - also with a 629, in this case the -1 version.

I bought a Heritage Series .45 ACP and it came to me in a very nice presentation case. Unfortunately, not one for that particular gun. It was interesting enough that it piqued my interest. I found that it was for a Model 629-1 Iditarod Commemorative that was issued as a bank premium for purchasing a CD. Both the gun and the case are inscribed "1 of 1000". However, the bank went under before the contract was fulfilled and only 565 of these guns were made.

I took that as a challenge. I had to find one of the Iditarod guns, sans presentation case, in order to fill mine.

Instead, what I found was a consecutively numbered pair, complete with all boxes, docs and tools, at a price I couldn't pass up. So I still have the "spare" presentation case - but it was worth it.

When it rains it pours.

Adios,

I did the exact same thing with a dash 2.

I've owned two 4" 629 no dash, foolishly let the first one go. No way I'll part with my current. I bought two more 629's at auction recently, both were test fired only. One was a 4" no dash and the second a 6" -1 NIB it is recessed but not pinned. I've owned M/29 & M629's since the early 1970's even a 4" pre'29 made in 1957. While I appreciate all S & W .44 Magnums my current preference is for the 4" 629 no dash.
