Accidental Shooting at Range in Poland (Shotgun)

The guy with the camera seemed pretty cool. Filmed it. Didn’t flinch..
Makes me wonder if this was some kind of a set up or a movie or something? Not sure if this is real or not?
What was the guy filming for?? And why did he do nothing when he saw what was about to happen and what did happen??
Just filmed the guy falling down after being shot?
I’m not buying this for those reasons… But I guess it could be.

I’m buying it, and am glad someone did a good job getting it on video. Good instructional video demonstrating what carelessness can cause.
If something like that happened to me I would want the video plastered all over the internet.
It’s not like there was a shortage of bystanders available to assist the injured man.

Saw that yesterday on twitter. Whole lot of what the XXXX there, IMO. Couldn't count the number of firearm rules that idiot broke.

Another odd thing was no one seemed to get excited when the guy got shot.

I hope the victim sues the heck out of the range and the shooter.

Why sue the range?
I fail to see how eliminating a place for shooters to do their thing serves a purpose.

You would think a range officer/match official would know better.

Can't see the range layout but that table was too close to too many people for that to be safe firearms handling location. Some Match Director did not put much thought into safety or safety considerations.

I agree with others who've opined the video is staged. Drag the slider with the video in full screen and step through the discharge. There's no blood or damage to the "victim's" clothing from the shot. I suggest it was a blank. A load of shot pellets at that range, IMNHO, would have shredded his clothing.

Could be. Why is someone recording at that convenient moment?
or
Is it an instructional video about what might happen if safety rules and practices are not observed?

Why sue the range owner?
That mind of mentality has gotten hundreds of thousands of acres of private land closed to shooting, hunting, and hiking over the last 30 years.

Because it is the operator of the range to ensure their clients safety. The RSO's are an extension of the Range Operator/Owner.

Maybe it happens a lot over there.

The vest the gun handler was wearing translates to "Pass Referee", or "Pass Judge". I suppose he may have also been part of the Range Safety guys, but he was some sort of official. You'd think he'd know more about not pointing the shotgun at anyone while on the firing line, but......

Somebody should’ve intervened immediately before the accident happened.

Unfortunately, I see poor gun handling like this all the time at public ranges and even private gun clubs here in SC.
Myself and a few other guys, get hassled all the time when we try to politely point out infractions and the risks of cutting corners on safety rules.

I can't count the number of times I've chewed someone out at the range for unsafe acts. Oddly, not once has anyone ever argued with me. Well, they did once. A guy laid his rifle 9-to-3 o'clock instead of downrange. I asked to point his muzzle downrange instead of at me.

His reply? "It isn't loaded."

My reply? "What if I held the muzzle to your forehead & told you 'it wasn't loaded.' Would you feel safe?"

He pointed it downrange. :D

A wise man once told me: The only one responsible for your safety is YOU!

That has kept me safe for 66 years now. ;)

Because the range gave the shooter his safety training (or should have). I also doubt this was his first FUBAR, just his first shooting.

Where was the RSO?

The range IS responsible for EVERYTHING that happens on the firing line, end of story.

There could be multiple explanations for those, IMO.

Could've been a .410 rather than a big bore. Could've been one of those short, short shells rather than a 2-3/4" shell. Victim could've only caught the edge of the spread instead of full-on. Could've been some more things that I can't think of.

But I would wager it was real. No old man is going to risk a hip by falling backwards for a fake video, IMO.

You need better friends................

That was in 75, only saw him 1 time afterwards . He was not a gun guy at all. Other friend was in RVN same time as I but up North, we had much to talk about. Learned last month he passed few years ago…..

There may not have been any range officers present. The outdoor range I shoot at occasionally has about 600 members with no range officers unless there is a large organized match going on. In which case only the sector where the match is going on has any safety people.
It is a private, paying membership range that goes out to 300 yards and is not open to the general public. It has been there since the mid-1960’s and if there has ever been a shooting-related injury I have never heard anything about it.
