Looks like his son took the magazine…

Regards,

I recall an article from a WWII era American Rifleman entitled "Babe's in the Woods" about the Bambino's Maine moose hunt with a .401 Winchester. No longer have the magazine.

I always knew many of our heros were hunters also. Clark Gable, Ward Bond, Gary Cooper and many I can't recall. Many baseball players also. They did not want it known for political reasons.

Or could it just be it didn't matter to anyone then?

Robert Stack was a top Skeet Shooter.
ROBERT STACK
Bing Crosby and Phil Harris were enthusiastic Wing Shooters who shot every bird they could.
Phil Harris - early one morning on an Oklahoma Quail Hunt, the Host Guide arrived to pick up Phil and Bing at the Hotel Cafe.
During the discussion, Phil said, it’s going to be a long day Jack.
The Guide replied, my name ain’t Jack!
Phil said, wasn’t talking to you!
He picked up his hat to reveal a bottle of Jack Daniels!

I thought of Mildred Didrikson.
While great on the track, the field and the links I would think she would have managed a long gun.

That Erle Stanley Gardner, of Perry Mason fame?

I sat there looking at your post, thinking how that second name sounded familiar, but like political assassins - John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray - I've never seen it with just two names. Always with all three. Just "Earl Gardner", especially with the first name spelled that way, was throwing me.
