Bondi Making Adjustments to ATF

Nobody truly knows what will come down the pike in the next 30, 60, 90 days. I just hope the ATF agent I have dealt with twice doesn't get reassigned somewhere else.

Know what you mean. My first contact with the ATF was when I was still on a visa and trying to get my head around the whole "non-resident alien with a hunting license" deal. Spoke to two agents, one in Vegas and a fairly high up type in DC. They were very helpful.

Thats ok too.
I worked with the ATF several times in my career and dealt with them as an FFL holder for over four decades. It seems to me that there was too much emphasis on regulation of law-abiding citizens and less on major criminal violations. Which of course was because of the changing political climate over the years.
Just two years ago, I saw two undercover ATF guys try to get someone to purchase a non-registered MP44 at a small swap meet. Most guys there are ex-military, retired and current LE, grandfathers etc. That is called entrapment. Trying to get someone to break the law.
More than once I have asked them if they wanted to go forward on cases I had of a career criminal who we arrested with a federally illegal weapon and was turned away and told to just dispose of the weapon. Never even inquiring where the bad guy got it. Really?
The ATF, FBI and other agencies have drifted way off course of their original mission statement. A major overhaul is long overdue.

As for him saying that Bondi's statement is "nuanced", I would say that after he was done it was stretched far beyond its elastic limit. Sorry, but that was drivel.

He takes the most favorable interpretation possible and then goes further with it. The statement says Alcohol and Tobacco enforcement resources will shift. No officers will be diverted from regulatory responsibilities. It's a pretty neutral statement that can twisted many ways. I wouldn't expect any wild changes in regards to firearms. Trump had control of House and senate for 2 years before and did nothing in regards to firearms.

Well, that would have been work. Who needs that?

I find it rather odd that one person is running two agencies.

He'll have a deputy who will be responsible for day-to-day ATF operations but he will set the agenda. It's kinda like a corporate CEO is responsible for overall operations but will have a VP for each division for operations.

Whether this will work out remains to be seen.

This one paints a different picture. Some ATF resources shifted from alcohol and tobacco to immigration. No change to firearm enforcement, and in fact some gun rights groups are cautious about Bondi due to past acts as Florida AG. Plus, if we are to clamp down on guns being trafficked to Mexico, as recently promised, ATF must grow...gunna need a guano load of agents to tackle Mexico's cartels with guns problem.

In the 90s my unit was doing some work in Central America. I tried to get my Commander to let me bring back a couple AK47s, on the Battery inventory, for training purposes. Going rate for a AK47, with no country of origin markings, was around $45 US. Rumor was these were coming from China. I had a hard time understanding why the drug cartels were going north to pay $500 for a semi automatic AR 15 when they could go south and get a select fire AK for $50.

Yeah, we got spoiled.

This isn't anything new. History repeats itself. There is nothing new under the sun, and those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it...

Or at least repeat the mistakes.

FWIW, I couldn't care less about his personality.
All I care about are a person's qualifications and what they can, and do get done.

I don't care about his personality, either, but his word salad is a match for a former VP of the USA and totally non-informative as far as I am concerned. If he said something important I missed it.
