Yep....... It's pitted and worn with weird grips only their "father" could love :). But it becomes a thing of beauty when it sends some 230 gr. FMJ downrange PRECISELY to where those pitted sights aim. For sure, It has some very pretty Smith family siblings. But when I have a "family" outing, I can't help but give most of my attention to this "less fortunate" family member. There is just "something" about it ............. :)

I could not agree more bigmntman. They're not perfect visually but boy do they shine when pressed into action. BTW, love your grips.

I could probably scrape up a few bucks if you want to get rid of those old home made stocks.
Hey Jeff!...This is my pigeon!...Work yer side of the street!...:p

Ken, my work guns will never win any glamour contests either, but like your 1917 they know how to show off their skills when called upon......Ben

My First Brazilian Had been re-barreled with a US property barrel. The one I have now is mechanically like new with only storage wear. It was delivered to Brazil in 1946 the year & month of my birth. I'd been looking for an affordable shooter - & I just got lucky. IT is my favorite revolver. #2 favorite is this nickle .38 spl model 1902 (just like an elderly detectives - I admired).

One was consigned at my Friends FFL.
A woman had brought in from her husband's effects.
The late gent had it pro-refinished and had some nice aftermarket targets.
However, somebody had viewed the net to help her with a consigned price.
At a grand she was way too high; it languished while she turned down some heady
offers.
After, several months I made an offer, but she decided to take it home,
A few weeks later I bought 1917, things happen in interesting progression
The 1917 is in my Avatar, left

I picked up a Brazilian over the Winter for a screaming deal. I hadn't shot it until a few weeks back. I had figgered it would be a fun little anachronistic, collectible. thing. I was blown away when I realized the accuracy it possessed. At 15-25 yards, it was remarkable. It's gone from collectible thing to a revolver I'd consider using for home protection with a couple minor alterations. (Grips and some paint on the sight)

Glad to hear yours is still clickin' and bangin' right along as well!

I don't think mine is ugly at all but I know one thing about it , everyone who shoots the dang thing pesters the crap out of me to sell it to them. It is fed a steady diet of 200 grain LSW pushed by 5 grains of Red Dot in AR brass and seems to think it should shoot like a scope sighted rifle. I have the original grips but fitted it with the post war Magna grips that I prefer on my shooters. No pitting and the finish is a similar to my Rock Ola M1 carbine but slightly darker. Best $250.00 I ever spent on a gun.

I have 45 single actions (8 Colt & 4 Italian), 5 or 6 1911's but this is my first 45 ACP revolver. I'm pretty sure it will not be the last. Gotta buy some half moon clips soon.

Tried the clips and hated everything about them . Buy the Auto Rim brass from Starline and skip the frustration . I do have one full moon clip that I keep loaded with the gun for a fast reload but that is absolutely the only use I have for them. I have 5 .45's currently not counting a junky 1909 that I might rebuild some day .
