Lawrence Holster Question for Turner River
Hey Lefty, or anyone else who may have a Lawrence holster size guide, I picked up a nice holster today. It is a 122 Western style series. Marked on the back is:
122LBS
8
6
I have a few old Shooter's Bibles that say that the LBS code means Laced edge, Basket weave pattern, and Sight protector, all of which features the holster has. I tried a Ruger Super Single Six w/ 6.5" barrel and the barrel touched the end of the holster before the gun was all the way inserted. I suppose a 5.5" Super Single Six would fit better, but does anyone know what a size "8" may actually be for ?
Thanks for any responses.

I have a Lawrence Catalog, probably circa 1980, it shows your holster 122 “Plainsman” all of the sizes are three digit, example: Single Six 5 ½” is #656.
So this catalog is not much help, sorry
Roger

Yours are pre-3 digit coding. Based on a couple I have, try a 6" K frame. Let me know if it works
Good shooting.

Homie nailed it. I tried a pre-Model 14 K-38 and it fit perfectly. It didn't occur to me that a western styled holster would be made for a target sighted K frame. Thanks

Years ago, when my department did their yearly pistol qualifications, all sorts of handguns showed up. One detective carried a M59 on duty everyday, but on range day, he would show up with a 6" Python n a floral carved Buscadaro rig.
We eventually had to qualify with our carry guns.

Walter,
Life is good.
Glad it worked. I have a mid-'50s Lawrence 100L for a .22 CM that's stamped 8 over 4.
Good shooting.
