Default L frame snub carry: Garrett Industries rules!

Hey All,
If you like to carry an L frame revolver, consider the following holster from Garrett Industries.

It's called the "Silent Thunder" and is an Inside the Waistband kydex holster, lined with leather.

The leather protects your gun's finish as well as making for a "silent" draw. I know, most of us are not Ninjas, and do not need a silent draw....but hey, why not?

If you do not find IWB carry comfy, even with leather, then DO NOT try to carry with this holster!! The fat part of the holster (revolver cylinder) needs to find the "perfect" spot on your torso, or....you won't like it!

I carry Juuuuussssst behind the point of the hip, 3:30ish, and find that it's perfectly concealed and comfortable. This position on the body also allows for sitting without the grip frame bumping seats/chairs.

The cant angle is adjustable, but when it is adjusted too far (max of 30* of cant angle) the cylinder rides TOO low, making for a tricky draw (rear sight snags on clothing at belt line).

I like alot of forward cant on my IWB holsters, so am working to find the perfect compromise between forward angle and snag-free draw.

I also ordered the "wide" clip, as a single attachment point is not really the ideal set up for such a heavy revolver.....the wider clip gives it more stability.

This is not my end-all, be-all holster for carrying such a heavy revolver, and I have a TT Gunleather IWB on order.....but, it is an easy on/off holster that is form fitted to make the 686 "do-able" for IWB carry.

regular clip vs wide clip

max forward cant angle

better compromise forward cant angle

That's an interesting holster! I have never seen a leather-lined kydex holster before. Thanks for sharing.

Garrett Industries makes great holsters. A number of guys at my club have them and the finish is superb!

I was really impressed with the quality of the one that I ordered for my Shield. That leather lined kydex is pretty nice. The holster was just way too rigid for me riding at 5oclock. When you think kydex, usually you think thin and light... this thing was rock solid. I'm sure it's durable as all heck, but I couldn't carry it comfortably.

Glad you're enjoying yours though. It's a fine looking holster and if it's comfortable on you, you can't do much better. Garrett industries makes a mean rig.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried this setup for appendix carry? Or is it too large?

I've always thought leather lined kydex was a win/win and played with it in a few applications. Good looking application and thanks for sharing!

I'm not a fan of appendix carry, and for sure I wouldn't attempt to appendix carry the beastly 686!

But, the zero cant angle option would work for Appendix carry....if you had the right pistol for the job.

Wheely did you have to ask for a specific clip placement. Looking on the site all they had was pics of the clip over the cylinder. Thanks, Ted

The revolver "Silent Thunder" holsters have the clip offset.
Perhaps the "Solo" holster has the clip centered on the gun?

I've owned a few revolver holsters from Garrett, and they all had the clip offset like the one in my review.
