When I got my 9mm Shield I grabbed the only single clip holster that was available at the rather large gun shop. It was a DeSantis inside heat. The problem I have with it is the clip makes it difficult to put on because of the way it is fastened to the leather. It snags going on and if I am wearing a sweater it snags on that portion of the clip that you grab on to to release from your belt when I remove my 9mm. I am now shopping around for another holster; go figure. I am thinking of one from Theis or the Raw Dog Tactical Defender Pro Holster. I like the idea of tuckable but I don't believe Raw Dog has that. What I would like to know is are there any cons to tuckable advantages/disadvantages.?

I use a DeSantis Sof-Tuck. It has a J clip for the belt and is tuckable. I don't wear sweaters but it's great with all my shirts and sweat shirts.

I'm a big fan of Tommy Theis's holsters, owning several. Personally I like the tuckable feature because I can't always go a round with my shirt-tail out and living in Texas makes jackets and coats infrequent wardrobe choices.

I have found that a tuckable holster worn untucked to be very comfortable. There is no way I can draw from a tucked holster with any speed.

From the perspective of wearing a tuckable holster and actually being able to tuck-in my shirt, I can do it and conceal the gun quite well. I have tuckable versions from High Noon and FoxX and bot work quite well.

It is a royal PITA to draw my guns with a tucked in shirt however and I do everything I can to avoid tucking.

I carry my Shield in a Tucker Gunleather Texas Heritage. Have found it comfortable, conceals well, and clips do stay in place well. Before I carried a SP101 in a Grizzle City Slicker 2, it had a metal band around opening to keep from collapsing and was a nicer finish than the Tucker--but also had a 12 week wait time versus roughly 2 with the Tucker.

I'm a big fan of N82 tactical. I've got their professional series for a p239 and it has been great.

I am leaning towards Theis. Raw Dog Tactical doesn't have a tuckable one that I see. Even in snowy CT can't always wear shirts outside the pants. Didn't know if one was more stable than the other but the body really holds the gun and holster snug. As long as the kydex doesn't expand and you don't do head stands I imagine all will be just fine. Am trying to keep the holsters to a minimum.

I assume your description is this style clip. Metal with a release tab formed outward at about 45*.

About your only choice with this clip would be to grind part of the tab from the bottom and smooth out the finish as best you can. That tab is really there for removing the holster and gun from your belt and to put on the belt with little downward force.

This is not a tuckable design. Personally, I'm like some of the others - I have not mastered the tuck routine yet...can't make it look good and professional.

Advantage - You CAN tuck in shirt.

Disadvantage - when your shirt IS tucked in .

For me, the IWB tuckable has been the most inconvenient, most uncomfortable way to carry. It's the most difficult to get situated. It's the slowest for deployment. It's the most tedious for re-holstering. I use it only when wardrobe demands, and absolute concealment is necessary. I have tried seven different IWB holsters. None have been significantly better than the others. They are all a pain. I prefer to carry in other ways, when I can. But sometimes, I must carry that way. I accept the trade-offs and put up with 'em.

The images for the JWL Tuckable do not look tuckable. If they are about 2/3 of the leather tab that holds the clip must not be sewn to the pouch. Perhaps the image is just to show the holster.

Here's a cellphone snapshot.

Should Be Only An Option IMO

For those that really require a tuckable clip I'd prefer they be an option. I have a fine holster (will not name the brand) and it has
a tuckable clip. There was no option. For me, I never "tuck" and I find that clip a real bother. I'd prefer makers let that be an option but if they're shipping "off the shelf" it may be a economic factor.
G'luck in finding something you like. With all the makers out there you should do fine.

Tuckable is SO over-rated........I don't know anyone that has purchased one, used it that way and still like it.

I have a couple different brands of tuckable holsters, Desantes and Pro Carry and find the tuckable feature overstated.
I use the holsters with my shirt tucked in and around the holster/gun at 3 o'clock. The little fluff around the gun matches the other side and allows for concealment and reasonable draw.
Completely tucked in is too difficult to put on and way to hard to draw.
IMHO

The majority seem to have no use for tuckable. The Theis can always be used as untackable. Your body is still going to keep it snug against your body. You can where it as an OWB between the belt and pants. That doesn't seem to be too good unless you have a belt that is way over sized. The reason for tucking is that you can't always wear a shirt outside your pants. ie a nice restaurant or the like. Are the tuckable clips inferior to the untucked clips? I quess I will have to find one at a gun shop and try it on. I can see the drawer is going to fill up quick with holsters.
