But in fact EVERYONE knew better than to carry a striker pistol, such as a Colt Pocket or Browning 25, with a round in the chamber back in the day
Two rather interesting observations.

The only revolver holster that I ever came close to an AD with had a covered trigger guard.

It was one of those upside-down "Bullit" shoulder holsters (dang, I was cool). I was taking off my sport coat in the office and another detective yelled "Freeze!" He then walked over and inserted his finger between the frame of my .357 and the cocked hammer. He had to completely remove the gun from the holster before he could lower the hammer.

The gun was a Colt Lawman 2" with a big, heavily checkered target hammer (go figure) and had apparently gotten that way while reholstering and had been riding around pointed at my left armpit for about 3 hours.

Lessons: 1) keep your thumb against the back of the hammer when reholstering; 2) when a police officer yells "freeze" don't ask "why?"
