Agent Campbell's Rig...
Folks that are familiar with me and the kind of gunleather I build, know that I have a love of keeping classic holster styles alive. Along with that goes a love of re-creating iconic gunleather, such as Elmer Keith's Lawrence 120 used to carry his No.5, and Skeeter Skelton's favorite sixgun rig built by the late Garrett Allen.
One of the things that I appreciate about this forum is the knowledge of it's members and their willingness to share photos of their incredible collections.
From the first time I saw the photos of FBI Agent Jerry Campbell's guns and gunleather, I have wanted to re-create his Myres Threepersons rig. This past weekend, the bug bit me hard and I spent my Sunday sketching, carving and stitching. Here are a few pics...
I'm adding this to my product line as the Agent Campbell model.
Thanks for looking!

Very nice! I'm old enough to have mail-ordered some Lawrence leather. I still have my 120 for a Blackhawk, though it is beat to hell. I got too fat for the belt and it went to somebody I love who could use it.
SD Meyers made good stuff.
I also have a fully loaded Heiser that I picked up I don't know where. A few years ago I had somebody make me a matching (as best they could) belt for it.
Forgive the Pachmays on the Colt OP.....

One thing I always like about Lawrence was their range of options. One option I really liked was they would move the cartridge loops around to the front side of the belt if you asked.
They are much better there, as reaching around behind your back for your ammo is cumbersome at best. Of course if it's just for looks it doesn't matter. When I had this belt made for the Heiser I had them move them around to the front.

I just discovered my next Barranti rig. A Pre 29 5" would look perfect in such a rig!

GREAT ACTION PHOTO TOO!
mb: You did a swell job on your holster! Looks like a beauty, but I really wanted to thank you for posting that photo of Agent Campbell. He looks great in his vest, fedora, wearing that Three Persons, & firing the Tommy Gun! Would you guess from the 30s or 40s?
Thanks, Hank M.

This is an interesting post. These came with my 3.5" pre 27 that was owned by a former FBI agent.

Hank, I would guess that but I don't know for sure. I saw this photo for the first time on this forum several years ago.

Thanks for re-creating some the favorite "classics" for those of us that have coveted them for years.

And with "TEX" in the stamp on the cartridge slide, which is believed to be the earliest production vs without the "TEX". Your pic doesn't reveal if there's a clear enough marking on the holster.
Interesting to me that the slide's stitched seam is at the bottom, whereas Myres' catalogues, and agent Campbell's slide, have it at the top; which was unique to Myres.
Any facts that tell us when your agent first owned these? These would help as we try to nail down the era of their stamps, though we may never know why there was ever a change from the one to the other. As with Heiser, whose many stamps appear to be downright whimsy.

Lovely, right down to finishing the welted seam stitching without a return stitch like the original (though I see you couldn't resist stitching closer to the fold at the muzzle) :-) Even with the pics it's hard to tell yours from the original including the roughed holster interior.
How about a pic of the holster's back?

According to the letter from the original owner, the gun was purchased in Feb of 1954, through Hank Sloan, Special Agent in charge at Quantico. The owner of the gun retired from the FBI in 1956. Originally, there where two Meyers holsters and the cartridge belt but only this one was with the gun when I purchased it.

Doc,
That is going to look great with my S & W 1926 3rd Model, 4" barrel handgun.
As you know I have that holster on order along with some other leather goods that I have on order from you. I can't wait for my leather goods order to finally arrive. Thank you!
