RedHead holsters
Anyone ever heard of this brand? As mentioned in another thread I gave my daughter a 4" 38 S&W Regulation Police as a house warming gift. Decided to try and track down a holster for her and found a left hand, RedHead brand leather holster for a 4" S&W RP. As my daughter is a left handed red head I took it as a sign and bought the holster. Looks 40's or 50's to me.

Redhead I think of as a competitor of Lawrence and Brauer; a basic holster usually. A Redhead could then be 1940-1970; likely turnerriver will actually know instead of speculating as I have.
And the left-handed Redhead daughter; well, it was meant to be :-).

That's about what I figured. The correct hand, correct revolver would have been enough to prompt me to buy. The name brand was a clincher though.

Yes indeed, from that pic it would easily be confused with a Brauer of the same period; though the Redhead snap buttons would give it away! Where I live 'Redheads' are a brand of timber match, with a pretty redhead gal as the logo (the usual moniker for redhead is 'ginger'; and the slang nickname is 'bluey').

Here's the cover of a Red Head catalog with a price list dated Jan. 15, 1939. Red Head made holsters in A,B & C grades, the differences were leather weight and finish.
They made a lot of holsters for retail and other concerns, sometimes with the retailer's stamp or logo and often without. They made a large number of generic flap holsters, the numbers are usually 3 or 4 digits followed by letters-A,B or C for grade and others indicating size or other features. One way to tell an older Red Head holster is the yellow thread used on the main seam and the distinctive thread pattern on the rear of the holster.
V,L & A was a purveyor of their holsters as well as selling the higher quality Heiser holsters.
Regards,
turnerriver

On the back of mine it is stamped 204 DB and the number 4 below. I paid $20, it seems decently made.

Redhead (with their distinctive duck-head logo) was a substantial manufacturer for several decades. In addition to holsters they offered cartridge belts (rifle, pistol, shotgun), very good gun cases, and other products for sportsmen. Products were marketed under the Redhead brand, but also produced for sale by major retailers under store brands.
All of their holster products with which I am familiar were of utilitarian designs, but featured very good materials and workmanship standards.
