I’ve only had it for a week. Purchased it here, and glad I did. It’s very comfortable, and the leather lining holds the weapon securely, while keeping potential holster wear down to the minimum. The belt clip is very secure, and the positioning of it keeps my 442 right where I want it. I don’t think I’ll need another holster for my j frame now that I have this one.

A part of the review that I neglected to mention, I am able to get a full firing grip on the weapon from the draw. That to me is what makes the holster that one step above the competition.

That's a really nice design - thank you for the photos (and for the thread - I'd not heard of this one before).

I don't have one for a J Frame but I do have one for a SIG pistol. The designers must strongly believe in being able to quickly obtain a good firing grip. This is a good thing in my opinion. Garrett products offer high quality and good design. As mentioned above, the belt clips are very strong. More than any other holster I own, these require a very solid belt to work well.

Default A+

I've owned a Garrett Industries Silent Thunder STX for maybe 5 years. It was advertised as a "kydex/leather J frame holster" in the forum classifieds and neither the seller nor I knew exactly what it was at the time (it's unmarked). I think I paid $25 and it took me a bit of google searching to identify the manufacturer.

I usually pocket carry a J frame, but this is now my holster of choice when I want one on my belt. I'm not a big fan of kydex, but the Silent Thunder STX is extremely well designed and does everything I could ask. The leather lining and adjustment screws provide excellent retention and the holster hugs tight to the body. The leather loops are adjustable to fit different size belts and the snaps make it easy to put on and take off.

The MSRP is $125. That may seem high for a kydex holster, but comparing these to a typical kydex holster is apples and oranges. Some of the components are available as replacement parts, but I doubt they'll be needed.
