1942 Leather Cartridge Case
I found this "B.H.G. 1942" marked Leather Cartridge Case in heavy "belted" leather over the weekend and thought it would make a great French fit Tommy gun case (or other). This is a photo off the internet, but mine is identical in looks and condition. It would fit an SBR Tommy gun, unbroken in half or a 7.5 barrel AR Pistol perfect from end to end plus accessories. I don't wanna go destroying any collectors value and start customizing it just yet. Any thoughts on value or alternative use? Feedback welcomed.

I don't have any usage suggestions yet. I'd like to see some detailed photos of yours and also dimensions. Depending on its age and condition, might be more useful in a display situation instead of actual usage.
It looks interesting. Wouldn't mind running across something like that, myself.

It's British.
It's a Map Case.
The maker (BHG) was Barrow, Hepburn & Gale Ltd of London.
Yes they do have some collectors value but like everything else you have to find the correct market.
I'd try the Enfield and Brit WW2 Arms collectors sites on the net. Might be some interest there.
BHG is a fairly common maker mark on leather goods, scabbards and such on WW2 Brit Military 'stuff'.
No 'BroadArrow' property mark stamped on it anywhere?
The Military collectors would most likely dismiss the item as a private purchase case and not a Gov't issue & marked case
unless it had the BroadArrow mark.

I think for a French fit Tommy gun case, it would be cool if you could find an old leather violin case in good condition.

I'll echo Watchdog's interest, good looking case.
Curious about the dimensions and is it lined?

I've already done that with a violin case.

I'll get some photo's tonight and no, it's not lined but very well made with belted leather. For those that don't know, belted leather is what they made really strong, nice suitcases out of back in the day. It was called "belted" leather because of it's high quality and what they made industrial machine belts out of because of it's strength.
I think map case is correct and more logical too because while the hardware and belts are very strong, the lid would pull open right behind the handle if loaded with something really heavy, so I don't think you'd be able to carry any ammo in it without securing it there also.
I got the description off an auction site so I think they were wrong.

That's beautiful! Had to laugh at the ammo under the Valentine's Day greeting...

It does have an "Arrow" head like this ^ on it, is that what you're referring to?

Broad Arrow is one of the British Military Proof Marks. See the pic below of my old sporterized Enfield SMLE.

That's it.
That's the British Property Marking they applied to their gear.
It goes way back in their history.
Several different styles and minor differences in shapes to it. But they all mean essentially the same as stamped on British equipment.
Commonwealth Countrys sometimes use a variation of it,,like Canada uses the C with a Broadarrow inside the C
That adds value to it as it was an 'issued' or Military inspected piece of gear.
The Military collectors then take note of it as opposed to an unmarked piece.

Here are the pictures, it does have the "Broadhead" but it's a different maker than originally thought, it's in "minty" shape with all stitching and hardware in tact. Feedback, value, etc.

Very cool case, congratulations.
It’d be perfect for my 1941 British lend lease Thompson 1928A1

Yes, yes it would. It would even fit without breaking the gun apart and hold the drum(s), tools, etc. as well. How sweet would it be French fit lined with velvet? That's kind of what I was thinking when I bought it too.

Well after some research, I found a map case very similar to this one that sold on an auction site for almost $1,700 dollars, needless to say, I won't be "permanently" altering this one considering I only gave $30 for it. It'll still make a "Kewel" range bag for my AR with French fit lift out trays and a removable strap to secure it behind the handle when loaded down with the gun and gear. I'll update after I get it finished.
