Ladies and gents, Merry Christmas! I'm looking for a shoulder holster for a Colt Lightweight Commander. In the olden days I had a Bianchi for my 4" mod 57 and that was fine except that with regular use, the elastic on the weak side would deteriorate from sweat and use. Also I don't see where it's even offered for the 1911. Oh and to be clear, because of my body shape, or lack of, I would need a vertical holster. This is for winter wear mainly when I'm riding. I looked at the Galco VHS and the Craft something or other. I use a few Galco belt holsters and like them, but the raft products got crappy reviews. Any other suggestions that won't break the bank? I'm hoping for $200.00ish. Thanks for the help.

Contatct Dave LaFleur @ " Cochise Leather Works " . It's in SE Az . I have bought shoulder holster rigs from him before . I need LH , my son uses RH . Makes quality rigs . It takes about 2 months to get your order . Just be patient . Regards, Paul

Craft Holsters makes a vertical shoulder holster for the Colt, 30 day trial & 5 year guarantee. Price around $80.
Just check the web for your make and model. That’s how I found the above. I have had a holster from this company and was very happy with it.
Good luck with your search!

Be SAFE and shoot often!

Regardless of your body type, I think the Vertical vs Horizontal rigs make allot more sense .
We had a RO at our club who wore a pair of (old matching serial number ) Commanders in Horizontal rig. (One each side.) It always struck me funny that he was a tickler for range safety (as he should be) but walked around all day with a pair of cocked and locked 45 muzzles sweeping everybody in the room. Kind of scary ( and unnecessary) IMHO .

I wish I could help here, but over the years and after trying a bunch of Shoulder Holsters I've never found one good enough or comfortable enough for long hours of wear and practical for me to conceal properly. I gave up about 25 years ago and got rid of all mine. If you do find one that really is comfortable for all day wear and works well, please let us know. :)

Are you riding a horse? If you are, I’d think the tanker pattern might be right up your alley. I don’t have much need of one but I’ve seen one made by Diamond Leather and it looks very nice. I have no first hand knowledge of the holster or the company (the photo is theirs) but it looks good to me. That’s all I know for sure. I might have to order one - just in case. :D

Shoulder holster are crappy for big, heavy guns. But the best of them is still the Bianchi X-15, named for the rocket plane of the late '50s. The medium size for your Mod 57 is the same for the 1911 that it actually was designed around.

78bagger: I am a real Vertical Shoulder Holster fan. I first started using this type of Shoulder Holster in Viet Nam in the 60`s & 70`s. I have tried and used a bunch of them over the years. But IMHO the ((( Bianchi X-15 ))) Vertical Shoulder Holster is the best of the bunch. Any way it is for me and the most comfortable I have ever used. I have three of them. A Small, Medium, and a Large model.

I have a Mitch Rosen vertical I love under a jacket or shirt for my commanders.

I have/use Bianchi and Galco shoulder holsters for my autos and revolvers. Very happy with both brands.

I agree with pat-t. I had the Bianchi X-15 for a Model 19 with 4” BBL for many years.I liked the spring tension. You didn’t need to use the retention strap if you set the spring tension correctly. It made for a very fast draw!
I noticed you said riding. Have you considered a cross draw chest holster or waist holster. I have used them when hunting and find them very fast on the draw and comfortable to wear.
Off topic but must comment. I TOTALY agree with Wee Hooker on the Horizontal shoulder holster! It breaks one of the most important SAFETY rules of NOT pointing a gun at anything you don’t intend to shoot! Sorry if this offends anyone, but I feel VERY uncomfortable around individuals that carry that way especially if it’s a Pistol. Again My apologies if anyone is offended! JMO and 50 Plus years of caring and shooting handguns.

Be SAFE and Shootoften!

I would just recommend the Galco or Bianchi offerings. I've had several over many years and they all work as intended. I used to highly recommend the Alessi offerings, but at this point only if you find one used. Their new stuff has insane wait times and their recent business dealings are frustrating to say the least. I'll save that for another thread.

Go to stonerholsters.com & look at the stormer vertical shoulder rig. Read about it's special features. They are very well made in Ohio.
