Does anyone remember a Hollywood feature western movie with a lead actor carrying a very low holster? It was referred to as a "knee" gun. The actor may have been Cameron Mitchell but I don't recall the title of the film. It was a theater movie--not made for TV & it was not an episode of a TV series

Vera Cruz, Burt Landcaster, Gary Cooper.........

Edit; I had this on my DVR and I am mistaken........

“Powder River”. A sort of remake of My Darlin’ Clementine” as I recall. Rory Calhoun was a Wyatt Earp type lawman and Cameron Mitchell was obviously a Doc Holliday knock off. Even as a kid or teenager when I first saw it I thought that “knee gun” he wore was ridiculous but I guess they thought it sounded faster because gunfighters wore their guns low, and that was REAL low.

While as I get older and my shoulders get less limber from old injuries, high riding holsters are much less appealing, it only takes an inch or two in a duty ring to be more comfortable. Low holsters such as that, or the "sub load" type used by some (some who have to carry a lot of crud, some who want to imitate them) are almost certain to be miserable to wear and use for most of us.

Here's the whole movie right here. I speeded up a ways in the saloon where you see Cameron Mitchell’s ridiculous holster.

Many thanks to the responders above & especially to "Wyatt Burp" for the answer & providing the video. This matter is an example of the odd way in which a person's mind can work. I remembered the gun rig & Cameron Mitchell, an d the dialogue in the saloon: "Looks fast/is fast." I could not recall the title of the movie, the plot, or the names of other actors. Rory Calhoun was one of the better western actors imo.

"Vera Cruz" has been shown on one of the cable channels but had nothing special in the way of guns & rigs. Burt Lancaster & Gary Cooper were good in that movie, though Burt shooting behind his back I thought was a rather "far out" stunt. .

But I never ran across "Powder River" again until the above post. My apologies to you all for mot thanking you all sooner, but I've been busy with getting a new water heater & auto repairs over the past several weeks & had not taken the time to check on the forum.

My friend is a live ammo and wax fast draw champ from the 50s onward and could do 'the Vera Cruz draw" behind his back, maybe with live ammo, too. He was best friends with tech. gun coach Rodd Redwing who coached Burt Lancaster in this movie and probably made his black rig. Spoiler alert!!!!Gee. guess it's easy to see who won here.
Here's the final duel between Lancaster and Gary Cooper in it...
