Looking for a cross draw holster for 640 Pro j-frame. I spend a good portion of the day sitting. I also prefer quick on-off so maybe that means snaps.

I'm building a list of possibles and so far I have Simply Rugged, MTR Custom Leather, Andrews Leather, Privateer Leather, Falco, Wright Leather and Bullard Leather.

At the moment I use a Don Hume pocket holster but would like to get out of the pocket. The Andrews Leather Carjacker looks interesting and probably comfortable for sitting but I'm not sure how it would be if I stood up and say went into a store or something.

Thanks

Haven't used it, but Side Guard Holsters makes a crossdraw holster called the Cross Guard, I believe. It's an OWB holster that attaches with snap loops.

I have used a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB holster for several years for my 642-1 and it still passes my shake test for retention.

If you want to go IWB, I believe those options can be ordered with 0 cant.

I have a "Master's holsters" J-frame crossdraw I got on ebay that I really like. Quality seems good, comfortable, retains adequately. It is *not* a snap-on however.

(And BTW, I also got their 1911 version, and would not recc that... Red described the situation perfectly, they made it too hi-rise so the weight of the butt makes it twist out, and a really stiff belt is the only fix. But the J-frame version is perfection, situated just right.)

I have a Privateer Leather crossdraw for my P320 that gets a lot of use, and liked it enough to order one for my P239 as well.

It takes a month or so but it's worth it.

EDIT to add: I like the pancake style as it feels like it's pulling the gun in tighter. Wes at Privateer says he's developing a unique magazine holster to go with the crossdraw holster. I ordered one of those as well.

EDIT2 to correct: I missed the OPs requirement for snaps. New link and pic

I have this cross draw holster made by Maverick Leather of Anderson,
Indiana. My Charter Undercover is shown in the holster, which is about
the same size as S&W J Frames like your 640.

As you can see in first photo at left it has a slight muzzle forward
cant which is ideal for cross draw carry.

2nd photo shows the back of the holster with the flap, which is
great for quick on and off. It is totally suede lined.

3rd photo shows the leather lip sewn to the inside of the paddle to
keep the holster firmly under your belt when you draw your gun.

Interesting holster phil, certainly satisfies the quick on-off preference.

I've got a nice OWB Privateer with snaps for a Dan Wesson 1911.
Very nice quality.

Does Hunter still make this little beauty ?? I wear it cross draw with a CA Undercover when in my vehicle. The "loop" on backside I have converted to a snap by a shoe repair shop ( $12 ).

Crossdraw

I like the Andrews since a friend has one for his Sig 220.

Then I realized that a PADDLE HOLSTER might work. I have a Galco paddle for MY Sig 220 that has adjustable screws on the back.

I re adjusted the screws and it makes the PERFECT on and off cross draw! No need to spend over a hundred bucks and wait weeks for one. The Sig rests in the perfect position.

My advice: if you have a paddle holster, check to see if the back is adjustable: it may work for you.

Contact "Mark" at "lobogunleathers.com
Mark created a custom cross-draw holster for my Ruger SP101 three inch. The revolver had been altered to render it nearly hammerless. I have worn the "package" for about two years, 12–16 hours per day 13 days of every 14. Holster does precisely what I want it to do. By pure luck holster's belt loops allow me to "lock" all holster movement. I wear Bill's khakis M-2 pleated pant. Any waist size between 33 and 36, the belt loop lock works. Be assured that holster's design renders movement or slop nearly zero wearing any 1.5-inch gun belt and any pant brand. My fortunate undocumented feature is strictly the cherry atop the hot fudge sundae.

One last thing. Apparently, Mark designed this holster to continually tighten its grip on the revolver — that is, holster self-compensates for leather's natural relaxing over time. A safety device of any kind is not needed, nor does the holster have any.

I strongly recommend giving Mark a call to have a similar holster made. If he has not retained the holster pattern PM me for my contact plus additional holster information.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I know this holster is on the wrong side. I also am aware that the belt is supposed to go behind the holster so it's not necessary to point that out to me. This works extremely well for me. In and out of cars, sitting, climbing. Basically it is super comfortable, easy to draw and easy to re-holster. Also, I am surprised you haven't gotten a lot of replies telling you how bad it is to carry crossdraw. My recommendation if you do get some is to just ignore those replies. Most would make no sense anyway.
I'm adding this as a post script. Worn in this fashion it's not necessary to have the belt snugged up real tight. As long as it's a decent pistol belt the stiffness alone is enough (keeping in mind that mine is a lightweight M&P340). I guess I should also say that I don't know how well this would work with a "larger" sized guy. Works great for me though.
