I think this is a Red Nichols question.

Bianchi offered three similar break-front shoulder holsters: 2000; 2100, and X-15. The 2100 was designed for revolvers. Its cylinder cut-out was probably its unique selling feature.

Does a single action revolver fit and function correctly when used in its "proper" 2100 holster? I am specifically interested in which variation fits Colt SAA/Freedom Arms Model 97.

Well, Red would be the guy to ask, as he designed the 2100. I just got the X-15 for my S&W .357 Magnum, 5” barrel. It takes a large X-15. It will also hold a Vaquero, and probably yours.

It is my recollection that the ejection rod will cause problems and will cause a serious "twist" in the weapon when drawing it. Based on personal but not recent experience.

I had a 2000 for a 1911 and found it to be about as good as it gets for it's type. I'm 6' 5" and most shoulder holster harnesses are not long enough for me. I also had a 2100 for a 4" N frame and carried my 629 no dash in it extensively when hunting.

Checking with Red Nichols, the 2100 was not designed for the single actions.

I dove into the catalog pile.

The 1991 catalog says OK to the X-15 for long barrel single actions but only DA revolvers for the others, while the 1993 catalog fit guide shows the 2100 for 5 1/2 inch to 7 1/2 inch single actions - but not 4 3/4.

Coincidentally, Red's Holsterguys blog has a new post about big guns in shoulder holsters.
