Default Bucheimer Perfect Fit Mystery

Greetings,

I hold in my hands a holster I cannot identity. It is a Bucheimer Perfect Fit model with the Towson diamond style imprint.

Marked 4011. I cannot find any reference to that number. I see that the "40" in 1971 catalogue is made for the S&W Model 39. Given that that model was first produced in the mid 50's it would make sense that a later Towson version would be the correct fit.

No such luck. My 3914 is too large, and I don't think the shape and size is substantially different from the original 39.

Please help if you can.

The Bucheimer people were complete loons with their ever changing, inconsistent model numbering systems from year to year. Two numbers, or two letters, or a mixture, or suffixes to indicate swivel. OMG. None of my bigger-than average collection of Bucheimer catalogs have such a number.

Be aware that there's nothing 'later' about a Towson mark; it is their earliest instead. Bucheimer was in both Towson and Frederick mid-50s and appears to have closed down Towson by 1960 or so.

So far no Bucheimer catalogs dated prior to 1950 have been sighted.

Default Oh Well

Thank you Red,

When I said "later" I was thinking in context of the first production of the Model 39.

Going from that "40" being for a Mod 39 I figured it had to put the holster between 1954 (1st 39) and 1956 (when they moved).

Red, you magnificent *******. I read your book!

I take that as one of the highest compliments especially including the asterisks the forum inserted for you :-)

You'll perhaps like the Second Edition even more as it includes more date info about Bucheimer et al.

Default 1956 fit chart

Recall that there are at least two Perfect Fit size charts - although the "Perfect Fit" holster is generally depicted as a snap-loop holster.

The 1956 chart from Turneriver and as organized in the Bucheimer master thread below:

In 1956,
40 = 402 40F = 4” OFFICIAL POLICE, MARSHAL

However, the OP's holster does look like an auto holster -- so lets go with 11.

11 = 112 11F = .32 or .380 cal Colt Auto Pistol

Andy, I know nothing about Bucheimer Perfect Fit holsters, but in your second picture, something is etched above the maker's mark. I can't read it on my viewer. By chance, they aren't like Heiser holsters and etch what they fit are they?
