Muckleroy Holsters
Fairly new member, and first post, so "howdy".
I am hoping to get more information on a holster I acquired, a Muckleroys. It is a nice floral carved, suede lined, 5" N frame, in very good condition. The inked stamp on the back reads Muckleroys - (unreadable city) - Texas. Bottom line also not legible.
I have learned that a Richard "Dick" Muckleroy worked for many years at George Lawrence Leather, in Portland, OR, and then worked at SD Myers, in El Paso. Assume it is the same Muckleroy.

I have him in Studio City 1930s to 1950s, according to Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs. The construction is pure Texas.
OCS&S largely is drawn from city directory appearances and contains about 6,000 saddleries and a few errors. So I'm not suggesting the entry is completely correct (just as Brill's entry is not correct, at all).
The connection w/ Myres and Lawrence is intriguing. OCS&S shows many saddlers moving from saddlery to saddlery to ply their trade.

It kind of reminds me of this holster.
It came from San Antonio and I’m told its probably an Alamo.

Found this on Worthpoint. If it is the same Muckleroy, it puts him at George Lawrence no later than the early 50's, and likely much earlier. Any records of him at SD Myres?

Ken, if I am reading it correctly, it looks like to me, Bill Lawrence retired in 1985 after 30 years with George Lawrence Saddlery. That would mean he started in 1955. He said that Muckleroy was there a FEW years before he got there and then retired, and was at SD Myres previously. If this, and Red's guy are one and the same, then he could have worked at SD Myres, then in Studio City from around 1930-1950, then at George Lawrence from 1950 until his retirement in 1955. Whatcha think, maybe?

I do love me a good mystery :-). This one will take a bit of thought.
In the meantime it will help your own research to know that Bill III was born October 1933. His 'retirement' was due to a crippling fall from his horse; ironic because this also happened to Samuel Sherlock in 1876 (Samuel died) leading to the Sherlock Bros eventual purchase by William III's ancestor, George Lawrence in 1893. George was already married to Rose Sherlock.

I am curious as to what years Dick was making holsters under his own name, and where. In the back of my mind, I keep thinking someone, somewhere, told me Gilmer, Texas.
Would be cool to find a dated, Muckleroy's catalog.
