Default Dillon Border Shift ammo bag

Does anyone use this, and how well does it work for you?

Border Shift Ammo Bag

I was thinking of trying one for my bulk range ammo to free up a hand (I currently use 30-cal GI ammo cans).

What gives me pause are the plastic couplings for the carry strap and how well it would hold up loaded with .45 ACP rounds.

I had a plastic version of the GI can. The first time I filled it half-full of.45 ACPs, the handle snapped off. I switched back to the genuine article.

I have 6 of them, each marked with the caliber. They hold the moonclips and tools, baggy for empty brass, etc. I don't normally use the shoulder strap, but often have them loaded up fairly heavy. Been using them for many years and they are holding up well.

I have four - my favorite for carrying bulk range ammo. I have never used the shoulder strap. With 1k of pistol ammo inside the handle is pretty much mandatory. Try one I am sure you will like it.

I have four of these and have been using them for 20 years or so. They will definitely hold up to hard use.

The description says it has a flexible inner liner. Does that mean you can fill the entire bag in one compartment and as you shoot, place empties in the other compartment so that the empties eventually occupy the same space formerly occupied by the loaded rounds, staying separated all along?

You got it! Compartments are completely separate so nothing gets mixed up.

I’ve got a leather version of the same exact bag that is Colt marked. I believe Colt gave it as a “thank you” after a purchase and sent it to me years ago when I bought a SAA. Anyway, I’ve never actually used it for ammo as I prefer using the plastic boxes - it gets used for other things. I would imagine it would work ok for it’s intended purpose as well but I question how many rounds I’d actually put in as ammo is heavy.

If you do use it as intended you might want to insert a zip lock plastic bag in first just to keep all the carbon and dirt contained. When you get home from a range outing simply pull out the bag.
