Repurposing a holster
I have an M&P 2.0 core 10mm 4.6” barrel with a Holosun optic mounted. I’m having a Dickens of a time finding a decent holster for it. I’ll eventually get a custom leather one as soon as I decide what type I want(and have to wait several months for), but in the meantime, I thought I would repurpose a Galco UDC that I have on hand. The pistol fits it reasonably well, but I’d like to get it to fully bottom out in the trigger guard space. In order to do that, I need to remove some material and make a notch for the optic to go down into. Questions are: what would be a good tool to remove said material? And how do I seal or finish it so it looks good and doesn’t start disintegrating where I’ve cut into it? I have a dremel tool with attachments and a zip saw with attachments (zip saw is like a bigger, heavy duty dremel). Any thoughts from the leather experts, or should I just leave it alone?

As much as I dislike Kydex, it is extremely moldable and will give you the custom fit you desire. If you cut the reinforcement along the mouth of the holster you wish to modify, you will compromise it’s strength and integrity.
Tandy Leather sells sealers, dyes and such.

Actually I’m kind of glad someone’s talking me out of it. I didn’t really like the idea of “wrecking” a perfectly good holster. I would only have tried it with good direction from some leather people here; I know for a fact I’d muck it up on my own
Kydex holsters are completely alien to me. Are you saying there’s something like a kit where I can mold my own holster? Or is there a generic one made for the M&P 2.0 10mm/.45 (which I think should be the same like a 1006/4506) that I can modify myself for the optics cut? There seem to be a bewildering number of variations of the M&P… 1.0, 2.0, shield, barrel lengths, sub-c, compact, full size, etc. I just can’t find anything that checks all the boxes for mine and would fit.

Considering how many people are showing up with optics mounted to shoot Carry Optics competition, I have trouble believing either Safariland or COMP-TAC can't fix you up with a kydex holster for your gun/optic combination. I wouldn't even consider hacking the leather or trying do-it-yourself. COMP-TAC would be my first choice, since the owners shoot and sponsor competition and make holsters for lots of the new stuff.

“Are you saying there’s something like a kit where I can mold my own holster?”
That I am not certain of, though I have seen some YT videos of folks with homemade set-ups molding knife sheaths. I suggest you call a few Kydex holster makers and ask if they produce the holster you need. If there is manufacturer near you, they could possibly use your gun and light to mold a holster.

You would certainly lose the integrity of the upper part with that suede holster, if you cut it out as indicated. A couple of things might work to reinforce it, but for the effort involved a whole new fitted holster could be made.

I wouldn't touch your current holster and making a Kydex is more trouble then it's worth if you are only going to make one.
I'm sure ComTec has one for you.
