In another thread wheelgun610 posted a pic of his Chas. Bluemel holster. I have the same holster in black. I bought it with a Pre Model 27, 3.5 inch barrel in nickel about 25 years ago from the grandson of the owner. A letter from S&W stated the gun was shipped in 1950. So I am confindant the holster is from around that same time. Any information on Bluemel holsters would be appreciated. I've attached a couple of pics.

I need to shoot a pic of my Bluemel without the gun in it. Mine is a bit different in that it's a high ride style, while yours appears to have the steel shank which is more along the lines of the Border Patrol style holster. If you look close, you'll notice they're actually two different styles.

The reference book Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs says Bluemel was in business from the 1920’s until the late 1970’s, Charles’ son Ed took over the business at some point. Most Bluemel holsters I’ve seen are Border Patrol types, here are a couple I’ve found and use.

Thanks Turnerriver and Wheelgun for the useful info. Yes, totally agree, mine is a border patrol style. Interesting side note, my holster and gun came out of the Las Cruces, NM area, a short distance from the border. It is very well-used and was likely a duty holster.

Do you think there may have been something attached to the strap around the hammper? There seems to be two indentations around that area that may have once had something attached there but was removed.

I see only the decorative stamping there; but if you see more then perhaps impressions left by this gadget that was commonly used on Border holsters. This one was by Hume for its Border styles:
