Does Anyone Recognize This Leatherwork And The Maker?
I picked this holster up a week or so at a gun show. I don't think the vendor was really trying to sell it at the show, but I asked him for a price and I bought it from him. At a good price, I think.
Anyway, as you can see, it's more or less a Wild Bunch style holster for the Colt Government .45 with the 5-inch barrel.
This isn't some holster some amateur slapped together. He built this holster...it has a leather lining and a really thick welt. The stitching material is substantial, and it doesn't seem to be that old. The leather is thick...looks to be 9-ounce.
As you can see, the maker's mark on the back isn't one stamp...it's made up of individual letters circling what looks to be a Texas star. And surely someone here recognizes the grizzly bear stamp?
I know there are thousands of independent makers out there, but someone ought to recognize this work. If you do, let me know. All I know is I've never seen one with the Reed mark on it around here. I love this holster and consider it money well spent.

Never seen anything by that maker, or heard of him but it sure looks like a high quality holster.
Keep us posted if you find out any details.

By the style of the basket weave pattern it looks to be Art Reed in Abilene, TX. It matches his pattern #2 on his belts, workmanship on the holster looks to be the same quality.

Thanks for the tip, but I think I've found the maker. It appears to have been made by Danny Reed, a holster and gunbelt maker who lives in Wilkes County, North Carolina...not a long drive from me. I've spoken to him several times at gun shows, but he wasn't at this last gun show I went to.
You can see a little video of him here.
